Chapter 18
Kavis pulled the needle out and got up, heading to the obstetrics ward.
He searched through every corner, finally finding Roy at the elevator.
“Roy.”
Roy stared at him for several seconds, noticing his bruised and battered face, before recognizing him.
She instinctively stepped back, protecting her stomach. “What happened to you?”
“My brother–in–law was in a bad mood and took it out on me. What about you? Are you about to give birth?”
Kavis looked at her stomach, his tone softening.
“My brother–in–law will get over his anger eventually. He’s the only son of the Mellon family, they won’t neglect him.”
“Roy, I’ve with a lot of things between!
helped and my brother–in–law. Now that my sister isn’t here, you’re the only one who can speak well of me to him.”
Roy finally smiled.
“As long as you’re sensible, these things are easy to talk about. I’ve always been one to repay kindness.”
“Where are you going now?”
“I need to go to the 17th floor for an ultrasound.”
“Then let’s take the elevator to the next floor?” Kavis glanced at the elevator. “The elevator will take a while. How about I help you upstairs? You’ll owe me a favor.”
Roy didn’t think much of it and handed him her hand.
Kavis supported her as they entered the stairwell and headed upstairs,
“My brother–in–law said that once you give birth, he’ll send you away. The child will stay with my sister, and call her ‘mom.‘ It won’t be any different than being her own.”
“But how can someone who was just bought to give birth dare to covet my sister’s things?”
Kavis’s voice grew colder.
Roy felt goosebumps all over her body. “What do you mean? I warn you, I’m carrying the Mellon family’s grandson. If you touch me, the Mellon family won’t let you get away with it.”
“Kavis, it hurts, let go of me!”
He was almost crushing Roy’s arm.
“Help… ah!”
Kavis forcefully threw her, and she tumbled down the stairs, crashing heavily onto the platform below.
A large pool of blood immediately began to gush out, staining the ground red.
“It hurts… the baby…”
Roy was motionless, the pain so intense that she couldn’t even breathe, unable to scream.
She looked up at Kavis, her eyes pleading. “Please… help me… the baby…”
Kavis stood still, unmoving.
When Jennifer gave W
her baby, did she feel this much pain?
The blood on the platform continued to spread, flowing down the stairs.
Roy’s breathing weakened, and her consciousness faded completely.
Kavis stood there, staring at her for a while before taking out his phone and snapping a picture, then posting it on Instagram.
[Sis, please forgive me, okay?]
This was the only way he could send a message to Jennifer.
“Ah!”
The stairwell door was pushed open, and with a scream, someone tripped and fell.
Unconscious, Roy was rushed to the emergency room, with Kavis following behind.
During the rescue process, the police arrived as well.
Kavis cooperatively extended his hand.
“Once the rescue is over, I’ll go with you.”
An hour later, the emergency room door opened,
“The baby couldn’t be saved. The mother lost a lot of blood, and we had to remove her uterus to save her life. She’ll need to stay in the intensive care unit for observation until she’s out of danger…”
Kavis smirked.
“Sis, look. Roy’s baby is gone. She’ll never be able to bully you again.”
He eagerly looked at his phone, but there was no response from Jennifer.
Chap 1
He knew, Jennifer really wouldn’t forgive him anymore.
Kavis trembled, uncontrollably covering his face and crying.
His post had completely ignited public opinion, and the Mellon family was once again thrust into the spotlight.
[Kavis wants Jennifer’s forgiveness, which suggests Devlin’s affair was at least known to him, or maybe even helped to cover it up?]
[Oh my god, one is the lover, the other is the brother. Just imagining Jennifer’s perspective, I feel suffocated.]
[Turns out the most hurtful knives are the ones from the people closest to you.]
The news reached Devlin almost immediately.
Assistant Carl cautiously spoke up: “President Devlin, the board is asking for you to make a public statement to clarify the situation and suppress the public opinion, otherwise you’ll have to step down as president.”
Devlin picked up his phone and updated his first Instagram post in days.
