Chapter 15
The pregnancy photo was sent by Roy.
The rose garden was a place she took Jennifer to see.
Jennifer knew when he sneaked out in the middle of the night to be with Roy.
Even everything that happened that day at the Mars family’s house was noticed by Jennifer.
All the little details that he had ignored in the past days now clearly surfaced in his mind.
One minute before Jennifer blocked Devlin’s mother, Devlin’s mother had mocked her for occupying a nest without laying any eggs.
But at the time, he thought Jennifer wouldn’t see it he believed that it was better to avoid conflict.
Then he turned around and scolded Jennifer for blocking Devlin’s mother.
Devlin gripped his chest tightly, feeling as though his heart was being torn apart, struggling
to breathe.
One thing after another.
If it were him, he would have gone mad long ago.
He didn’t even dare to think about how Jennifer had endured those days.
She had still been carrying his child back then.
What had he done?
All of Jennifer’s grievances were caused by him.
The phone rang–it was a call from Roy.
Devlin’s anger flared.
How dare she still call Jennifer?
Devlin’s clearly sick of you, how can you still have the face to come back?” Roy’s voice came through the phone, sharp and mocking.
“The first abortion, the second miscarriage–you lost both of your children at his hands, and you still come back to find him? How shameless are you?”
“Do you need to die for him again before you realize he doesn’t love you anymore?”
“No, wait you barely got pregnant after four years. It’ll be even harder for you in the future. Do you think you’re coming back to be my child‘ nanny?”
Each word was like a knife, stabbing into Jennifer’s most painful spot.
Devlin’s breath became ragged. If Jennifer had been the one listening to this call, what would her feelings be?
“Why aren’t you saying anything?”
Roy waited a moment, then sneered.
“Now you want to save face? I can be the good person here, let my son call you ‘mom‘ later, and make up for the regret you couldn’t have children.”
“Roy, you’re looking for death,” Devlin gritted his teeth.
The line went silent for a few seconds before Ruoyi nervously spoke.
“Devlin… It’s not like you think. It was… it was your wife who started yelling at me. I… I’m just
“You know how much I care about the baby. She can curse me and beat me all she wants, but if she curses the baby, I can’t stand it.”
“You care about the baby too. You should understand how I feel, right?”
But for a long time, she received no response from Devlin.
All she could hear were his increasingly heavy breaths, dragging her heart to the edge of a cliff. Roy cried out, “Devlin…”
The call was abruptly cut off.
Roy shuddered, unconsciously touching her belly.
Devlin had only come to her because he wanted a child. As long as the child was still there, Devlin wouldn’t hurt her… right?
The room was warm, but Roy sat and stood, uneasy for half an hour, drenched in cold sweat
Suddenly, the door was pushed open, and Roy spun around in shock.
She met Devlin’s cold, murderous gaze and screamed in fear.
“Devlin, you have to let me explain…”
“Roy, I told you from the beginning–Jennifer is my bottom line.”
Devlin closed in on her step by step, his cold, oppressive presence suffocating her.
“She’s the one I keep close to my heart, while you are just something I pay for to amuse inyself. Where do you get the guts to treat her like this?”
Roy tried to run, but he yanked her back with fore
Chany
Devlin grabbed her by the neck, slamming her onto the sofa, tightening his grip.
Roy was paralyzed with terror. He was truly going to kill her.
She struggled desperately, reaching for the ashtray and hurling it at him.
