Chapter 14
Devlin’s mother and father fell in love when they were young and were known as a model couple.
But in the video on the screen, Devlin’s father, who was always so obedient to her, was holding a young woman.
The woman was in her early twenties and smiled, looking eight parts like her when she was young-
Devlin’s mother suddenly stormed into the living room and slapped Devlin’s father across the face. She was pale and tears streamed down her face.
“How could you do this to me? Tell me, how could you!
“Wasn’t I just following your example? Roy was a gift you gave to your son. I’m much better than you–I at least won’t end up having a child calling you ‘mom‘.”
Devlin’s father impatiently shrugged off his wife’s desperate attempt to grab him and left without another word.
Devlin’s mother sobbed and trembled.
“I’ve been with your father for forty–three years! We’ve been through thick and thin, we were married in our youth. What did I do wrong? Where did his conscience go?”

“And what about Jennifer? What did she do wrong?”
Devlin’s eyes were filled with madness.
The knife only hurts when it’s plunged into your own flesh.
That’s how his mother was.
And that’s how he was

Neither of them had the right to live well.
Devlin’s mother collapsed onto the sofa. After a long while, her gaze fixed on Roy, and she shrieked
“Get out! All of you, just get out!”
She began to throw whatever she could reach.
“You’re all the same, none of you are any good!”
Devlin turned and left.
As soon as he stepped out the door, Roy came running after him ta

face.
“Devlin, what about the baby and me? I’m so scared.”
Devlin paused.
In all of this, Roy was at fault, but her sin wasn’t enough to deserve death.
The child was innocent, and he had been eagerly waiting for over eight months.
“I’ll transfer some money to you. Take care of yourself,” he said.
“No, no!” Roy grabbed his sleeve. “I really love you. Will you come visit me and the baby sometimes? Please?”
Devlin frowned, about to refuse, when his phone suddenly rang.
It was a call from home.
“Mr. Devlin, your wife sent something over.”
Devlin froze, his heart leaping in joy, so overwhelmed that he forgot everything else.
He immediately shook off Roy, jumped into his car, and headed home.
Behind him, Roy staggered a few steps before steadying herself, her gaze filled with venom.
Why was he coming back after she had finally driven him away?
The half–hour drive took Devlin only fifteen minutes.
When he got out of the car, he tripped several times and got dirt all over himself.
Devlin didn’t care about anything. He rushed into the house.
“Jennifer, you finally came back!”
But in the living room, besides the housekeeper, there was only a delivery man with his back
to him.
“Mr. Devlin?”
The delivery man turned around at the sound of movement and handed over a package.
“This is from your wife. Please sign for it.”
“Where is she? Where is she?” Devlin demanded,
“Mr. Devlin, I… I don’t know.”
The delivery man seemed helpless. “This package was picked up at the airport five days ago. It was scheduled for delivery today.”
Devlin felt like he had been hit with a sledgehammer.

Jennifer had done this on purpose.
She had personally cut off all the ways he could find her.
He had made mistakes, but how could she be so heartless? She didn’t even leave him a shred of hope.
Devlin opened the package, and inside was Jennifer’s phone.
He turned the phone on.
Hundreds of messages caused the phone to freeze for a few seconds before it responded.
Most of them were messages from him.
The people who should have seen them hadn’t seen a single one.
Declin’s eyes turned red.
One of the messages that popped up made him freeze in place.
It was from Roy.
[“Leaving on your own accord shows you still have some dignity. Otherwise, being thrown out would be a real joke. Anyway, sooner or later, you’ll have to give up the position of Mrs. Melon to me.“]
Devlin opened Roy’s chat history and opened Pandora’s box.
