Chapter 12
“It’s impossible. Jennifer could never do this to me.”
Devlin murmured to himself.
Jennifer was so soft–hearted; how could she be so cruel to him?
He didn’t even dare to think about the document she had handed him to sign yesterday morning.
Devlin, not giving up, called Jennifer’s attending doctor.
“You didn’t know? Your wife came in alone for a miscarriage procedure yesterday morning.”
Devlin’s eyes turned bloodshot as he hoarsely asked,
…Did she… Did she say anything?”
டட
“She didn’t say much. Before the procedure, she asked if the baby would feel pain.”
The doctor hesitated for a moment. “It seems like your wife didn’t know that her previous miscarriage was caused by the wrong medicine she took.”
Devlin collapsed into the chair, his mouth full of the taste of iron.
Beside him, Devlin’s mother’s face turned ashen
“What kind of wife did you marry? She dares to get rid of the Mellon family’s child!‘
“Devlin, let me tell you, if she doesn’t want the child, then Roy…”
Before she could finish her sentence, Devlin shot her a look full of malice and hatred. “You… you hate me?”
“Shouldn’t P
He hated Devlin’s mother, he hated Roy, and most of all, he hated himself.
Devlin’s mother couldn’t accept it and her eyes turned red.
“You have no right to hate me! I gave birth to you, I raised you, and Roy is someone you approved of! If you want to hurt her child, then fine, but don’t call me your mother!”
With that, she turned and walked out.
Devlin sat there in a daze for a long time, before sending someone to check the hospital’s surveillance footage.
The footage arrived, but it took him several minutes before he dared to watch it.
Suddenly, he began trembling all over.
Chapk
The footage captured Jennifer–and also Devlin.
Yesterday afternoon, he had gone to the hospital with Roy, who was feeling unwell.
He told Roy that he wouldn’t let anything happen to her or the baby.
At that moment, Jennifer had been standing by, watching them, and she had just lost her child.
Devlin’s eyes turned red, and he couldn’t stop himself from making a whimpering sound in
his throat.
He replayed the footage over and over again, his fingers grazing over Jennifer’s figure, who could only stand by the window to steady herself. His heart broke into a million pieces.
When Jennifer needed him, he was never there.
He had promised to protect her for life, but the person who hurt her every time was always
him.
In the footage, Jennifer took out her phone.
Devlin also found the message Jennifer had sent him, and the timing matched perfectly.
[The surprise I’ve prepared for you is ready.]
It turned out that the ultrasound report wasn’t her surprise.
This moment, now, was.
As the footage came to an end, Devlin finally allowed himself to look away.
“Did you find out where Jennifer went?”
On the phone, Assistant Carl cautiously spoke, “After Madam landed in the UK, she immediately bought tickets to several other countries. We don’t have any leads on where she might be right now.”
Devlin almost couldn’t hold onto the phone.
Jennifer’s intentions were so clear she didn’t want him to find her. She wanted to sever all ties with him.
But he couldn’t let go.
The past had been so beautiful. How could he bear to let it go?
“Jennifer, please forgive me one more time. I promise I won’t disappoint you again.”
The online storm was already raging Devlin’s affair had led to a backlash from netizens, and products under the Mellon Group were being boycotted.
Yet, Devlin still sat in the baby room, never leaving his phone.

He knew the calls wouldn’t go through, yet he dialed again and again.
He sent message after message, desperately pleading for a response.
But there was no reply. The despair of losing Jennifer was pushing him to the brink of collapse.
Click-
The door to the room opened.
Devlin instinctively looked up, and saw a woman walking in.
A bright light finally filled his eyes.
“Wife, you’re back.”
