Chapter 9
Jennifer’s message was replied to by Devlin.
[Baby, I’ll be over soon. I can’t wait to see what your surprise is.]
But by the time the fireworks were in full bloom outside, Devlin still hadn’t heard from Jennifer, and an inexplicable sense of unease began to grow in his heart.”
He was just about to call Jennifer when his phone was pressed down by Roy.
“Devlin, you promised me you’d stay with me tonight.”
“I can’t leave Jennifer alone there.”
Devlin furrowed his brow, his mind full of thoughts of Jennifer.
He hadn’t been there, and he didn’t know how worried she might have been.
The fireworks on their fifth wedding anniversary–he had to watch them with her to make things complete.
“But if you go now, you’ll miss it anyway. Isn’t it okay if you’re a little late?”
Roy wound the silk ribbon of her nightgown around his finger, tugging at it slowly.
The nightgown slipped to the floor.
Devlin’s breath quickened, but his mouth still said, “Stop fooling around.”
Roy bent down. “I told you I’d reward you. Don’t you want it?”
The only response to her was a muffled groan from Devlin.
Roy smiled coquettishly.
Devlin yanked her into his arms and kissed her fiercely.
The phone lying on the side rang several times, but no one answered.
Two hours later, Devlin changed his clothes and drove to the Rose Garden.
The fireworks had long since finished, and only a few scattered people were left lingering outside the garden.
Devlin slightly disheveled his clothes at the entrance before pushing the door open.
“Babay, I’m sorry I’m late. Whatever punishment you want, I’ll take it…”
But inside, aside from a servant still tidying up, there was no sign of Jennifer, “Where’s my wife?”
“President Devlin, your wife didn’t come.”
Devlin’s face darkened. “Nonsense. How could she not come?”
“But Madam really hasn’t come.”
Devlin’s throat went dry, and the unease in his heart grew stronger.
He took out his phone and checked. He had thought the missed call earlier was from Jennifer,
But it wasn’t.
Seven missed calls, all from Devlin’s mother.
Devlin scrolled through his phone again, unable to find a single message from Jennifer.
But how could there be nothing?
Devlin instinctively dialed Jennifer’s number, but her phone was off..
His face turned pale, and he rushed out of the Rose Garden, driving home.
“Baby, it’s all my fault. There was a conflict with Kavis, and I went to handle it. That’s why…”
But he was too late.
Devlin’s voice trailed off. The living room was empty.
The villa was like a show home, and everything related to Jennifer was gone.
Devlin instinctively looked to one side, where a large wedding photo used to hang.
But now,
it
was gone t
The most unlikely thought flashed in his mind.
Had Jennifer left him?
No, that couldn’t be. He hadn’t even missed the fireworks with her.
She was the softest–hearted; all he had to do was make some time to comfort her, buy a box of steak, and everything would be fine.
“Jennifer, don’t scare me. You know how much your husband cares about you. I’ll be scared if I can’t see you.”
“You said you had a surprise for me, right? I still don’t know what you’ve prepared.”
Devlin said this as he hurried upstairs.
There was no one in the bedroom either. Devlin quickly opened the wardrobe.
Half of it was empty, and all that was left were Jennifer’s clothes.

Devlin’s mind exploded. Everything went black,
Footsteps approached from behind.
Devlin, as if finding the last lifeline, immediately
But it was just a servant.
“Mr. Devlin, Madam said she left a surprise for ye
