The divorce agreement had already been flipped to the last page, and Devlin took it and signed it directly.
“Aren’t you going to read the contents?”
“Isn’t it just an adjustment to the IVF plan? Jennifer, if you think it’s fine, then it’s fine. I’ll go along with whatever you decide.”
Watching him leave, Jennifer couldn’t help but laugh.
Laughing at how he still claimed everything he did was for her.
She picked up the medication that had been sitting on the coffee table for six days and took it.
Her hand gently brushed her belly, and her throat tightened with a bitter, painful lump.
Baby, I’m sorry.
She had given him so many chances, yet he hadn’t seized a single one.
Jennifer packed her things and went to the hospital alone.
“Four weeks of pregnancy, the fetus already has a heartbeat, and development is normal. Are you sure you don’t want to keep it?”
“No.”
“It’s such a pity. You had a miscarriage last time because of the wrong herbal medicine, after so much hardship, and now you have to terminate it. If you want children in the future, it will probably be even harder,” the doctor sighed.
“Last time… I had a miscarriage because of the wrong herbal medicine?”
Jennifer froze and looked up, her throat dry, each word coming out painfully.
The doctor frowned. “Yes, didn’t President Devlin tell you?”
So, he knew.
Jennifer’s ears rang.
The first time she was pregnant, Devlin’s mother would send her miscarriage–preventing medicine every week.
The herbal medicine was bitter and astringent, and every time, Devlin coaxed her to drink it, one mouthful at a time.
Then, after she had to undergo a D&C, her body was injured, and she had no choice but to
resort to IVE.

She had always thought that the miscarriage was just an accident.
Five years, six rounds of IVF, and five failures.
Devlin just watched as she struggled with guilt and self–blame.
He said the lost child wasn’t her fault.
Yet he never once said that the fault wasn’t hers.
“Ms. Smith, are you alright?”
Jennifer took the tissue the doctor handed her and only then realized that her face was covered
in tears.
“I can see you’re not in a good state. How about you take a moment to calm down and think about it…”
“There’s no need to think.”
Jennifer wiped her tears away, her voice firm.
“I’ll do it.”
Before the anesthetic took effect and she lost consciousness, Jennifer hazily looked at the doctor..
“Baby, will it hurt?”
The doctor was momentarily stunned, and then fell silent.
Jennifer completely lost consciousness.
When she woke up again, several hours had passed.
After she regained some strength, she got out of bed and walked out.
As she passed the obstetrics and gynecology department, her steps froze in place.
Not far away, Devlin was walking out of the consultation room with Roy.
“Did
you
feel that? The baby is saying hello to you. Thank you, Daddy, for protecting Mommy and the baby.”
Roy held his hand and placed it on her belly, her eyes red.
“Devlin, I had stomach pains just now. I was so scared.”
“Fool.” Devlin kissed her forehead. “I won’t let anything happen to you or the baby.”
Roy leaned into his arms and just so happened to make eye contact with Jennifer.
Roy smiled smugly and deliberately raised her voice.
Chargene
“Then tonight, will you stay and keep me company?”
Devlin was silent.
“You can still watch many fireworks with her. But our baby is about to be born. What if I get stomach pains again tonight…”
“Devlin, I’m really scared.”
After a long pause, Devlin finally relented. “Alright.”
“I knew you’d be the most considerate of me.
Watching them leave, Jennifer’s gaze turned icy cold.
The trending topic stayed up for twenty–two days.
The whole city was waiting to see the grand fireworks that Devlin would present to her at 7 PM.
Devlin knew full well, yet he still chose to leave her alone.
Jennifer took out her phone and sent Devlin one last message.
[The surprise I’ve prepared for you is ready.]
Then, she hailed a cab and went straight to the airport.
Jennifer turned off her phone, handed it to the delivery man, and wrote down the address of the Melon family.
7 PM.
The blue fireworks erupted on time, dazzling and brilliant, lighting up half the sky.
Amid the cheers,
Jennifer dragged her suitcase and boarded the plane, never once looking back.
