Sofia Schneider picked up the tools and started stitching Nathaniel Hart’s back.
Her movements were smooth and fluid, without any hesitation.
If Braylon Green and the others didn’t know how long Sofia had been at it, they’d think she had just entered the operating room.
Sofia worked quickly and soon finished stitching up Nathaniel’s back.
Braylon finally let out a heartfelt compliment.
“Wow, Sofia, your hands are a gift from God! This isn’t just surgery; you’re creating art!”
Sofia smiled at Braylon, suddenly feeling a bit shy.
She looked at Nathaniel’s back and suddenly thought that once Nathaniel recovered, she wanted to get him a tattoo, to paint a picture on his back.
Looking at Nathaniel’s back, she thought about getting him a tattoo once he recovered. She wanted to turn that long, ugly scar into something beautiful.
Otherwise, even though her stitching was perfect, it still felt like a shame to have such a long, ugly scar on his perfect back, which made Sofia uncomfortable to look at.
But she needed to talk to Nathaniel about it.
Because, the tattoo had to be done by her.
She didn’t want another tattoo artist to do it.
Suddenly, she felt a strong sense of possessiveness over Nathaniel and didn’t want anyone else to see his body.
After a grueling sixteen–hour surgery, it was finally over.
Nathaniel was taken to the recovery room.
Sofia and Braylon walked out together to meet Older Mr. Hart.

Older Mr. Hart had been waiting the whole time, his eyes red from worry and exhaustion, wondering if his grandson would recover.
A pretty woman had brought him food earlier, but he didn’t have any appetite.
When Sofia and Braylon walked out, Older Mr. Hart finally smiled.
But as he opened his mouth to speak, tears started to fall.
Sofia quickly went up to him and held his arm. “Grandpa, the surgery was a success. Don’t worry. We just need to wait for Mr. Hart to wake up.”
Older Mr. Hart tightly held Sofia’s hand, still crying.
Sofia understood his feelings and looked to Braylon for help.
Only Braylon’s words could calm Older Mr. Hart now.
Braylon got the hint and said, “Older Mr. Hart, rest assured, the surgery was very successful. Now we just need to wait.”
Hearing this, Older Mr. Hart finally felt some relief.
But then, the tension left his body, and he almost collapsed.
Thankfully, Sofia was there to support him, preventing him from falling.
“Grandpa, Mr. Hart won’t wake up for a while. You should rest. When you wake up, he’ll probably be awake too,” Sofia said.
Older Mr. Hart knew he couldn’t keep going without rest.
He needed to be there for his grandson, so he couldn’t afford to collapse.
“Alright, I’ll listen to you,” Older Mr. Hart said.
Sofia thought for a moment and decided to give him some medicine to help him sleep.
This way, he wouldn’t be too worried about Nathaniel to get a good rest.

The sleep aid was gentle and would ensure he slept soundly without any side effects.
She handed him the water and didn’t push him to eat since she knew he had no appetite.
“Grandpa, drink this and go to sleep. I’ll stay with Mr. Hart. If anything happens, I’ll call Dr. Braylon immediately. Don’t worry.”
Older Mr. Hart, touched by Sofia’s dedication, felt another wave of emotion.
After a sixteen–hour surgery, Sofia must be exhausted.
But she still needed to watch over Nathaniel.
Older Mr. Hart held Sofia’s hand, his eyes welling up again.
“Sofia, Nathaniel is so lucky to have you. Thank you, truly.”
“Grandpa, don’t say that. It’s what I should do,” Sofia replied.
After settling Older Mr. Hart in his room and making sure he was asleep, Sofia went to Nathaniel’s room.
He was still hooked up to the IV, lying on his stomach because of the surgery on his back.
It was an uncomfortable position, so Sofia massaged him occasionally to ease his discomfort.
When Emiliano Rogers walked in, he saw Sofia taking care of Nathaniel.
He shook his head. “Sofia, aren’t you giving too much?”
This sight made Emiliano uncomfortable.
Sofia had always been their leader, the one they followed without question.
Now, seeing her care so much for a man who was essentially a stranger to them felt strange.
Sofia looked up at Emiliano and asked, “Do you think I shouldn’t be doing this?”

Wasn’t she the most suitable person to take care of him?
“Sofia, is there love in your marriage?” Emiliano asked.
Sofia frowned. “What do you think?”
“Don’t you want to get something out of this?” Emiliano asked.
Sofia thought about it. She hadn’t really considered it that way.
From the start, she hadn’t based her relationship with Nathaniel on love.

After a moment of silence, Sofia said, “Emiliano, I know what you’re worried about, but you know my nature. Once I decide on something, there’s no changing my mind.”
Emiliano opened his mouth, wanting to say more, but in the end, he said nothing.
He knew Sofia well enough to know that few people met her standards.
And it seemed Nathaniel had become someone she wanted to protect.
As Sofia’s partner, he couldn’t argue with that.
He just hoped Sofia wouldn’t get hurt.
Because, in this world, nothing hurts more than love.
