Canary Caged, Then Gone Chapter 2

Canary Caged, Then Gone Chapter 2

I chuckled. I was the woman he had married

and yet, they all called Sarah Mrs. Sterling‘

and me Ms. Lara

Ever since I had stood him up on his attempt

to finalize the divorce, Jason had declared on

social media that Sarah was the only woman.

he would ever call his wife

I had become a laughing stock in town

I rolled my eyes, my neck still a bit tender

It’s his problem, call the Sterlings. Don’t call

me, I don’t care.”

And with that, I hung up

I never thought Jason was capable of such

craziness, digging up a grave

Ever since he got involved with Sarah, we

talked about divorce more often than we ate

meals

But nothing ever got done. Either I wouldn’t

agree to it or she’d get Jason to run off on

some errand or other

The most recent time was two months ago

when Jason had offered me half of his

fortune to finalize our divorce

I had agreed

But then the day before we were supposed to

sign the papers, I found out I was pregnant

and backed out

Jason blew up thy phone that day, and then

Sarah disappeared

Jason’s grandfather got involved and had

long talk with him. Jason may ignore

everyone, but he would never disrespect his

grandfather

The next day, Jason called off the search and

had never tried to chase after her again

We had never spoken a word, and no one had

brought up the divorce

I had thought, even if he didn’t care about

me, he might care about the child

But it turns out, using a child to tie a man

down was the dumbest thing I could’ve done

I went for the procedure the next day

I wasn’t that noble. I didn’t want to be a single

parent

I may not deserve love, but my child deserved

to be born into a secure family

The surgery went quick. That afternoon, I was

back home

Now I didn’t have a child, the divorce was just

a matter of signing a paper

Jason hadn’t shown his face since then

which made sense, as he was probably still

looking for his lost girlfriend

He just couldn’t accept that she was actually

dead

Chapter

Seven years of marriage. I had a lot of things

but not that many

I called in some guys, set up a bonfire in the

yard. I wanted to burn it all

Any jewelry or possessions I couldn’t destroy

I would sell

I didn’t want to take a single thing from this

house, I didn’t want to leave anything behind

So I burned everything

Jason came home just as I was throwing our

wedding photos into the flames

I was surprised. I hadn’t seen him in over

month, I had thought he might have tried to

join his lover

The smoke curled around us, his eyes were

like ice. He looked at me like I was a walking

corpse

He was clutching an urn. He walked past me

Then, he shoved me. If the butler hadn’t

grabbed me, I would have been seriously hurt

A chill ran down my spine. Jason had

completely lost it

He was now using physical violence to get

back at me

Jason clicked his tongue, almost

disappointed
