A tall, lean man walked up to us, stopping
right in front of me.
He glanced at Jake, then smiled gently at me.
“I believe you wrote it.”
Jake’s jaw dropped. “Liam, Mr. Sterling…”
“I know sign language, I’ll translate for you,”
he said, taking my hand and leading me to
the stage.
Jake ran in front of us. “Mr. Sterling, you’re
く
wrong. That’s Tiffany’s song. It’s not hers.
“She’s a music therapy major, she doesn’t
know anything about songwriting.
“Chloe, please, stop it. I shouldn’t have gotten
mad, let’s just go home.
“You always wanted to check out that cat
cafe in West Side? Let’s go now.”
I patted Liam’s hand, asking him to let go.
He frowned, cocking his head, as if asking
me, are you really going to leave with him?
I didn’t answer, but I signed to Jake, “I’m not causing a scene. It’s my song, and she should
compete with her own.”
<
Then, I turned to Liam and went to the stage.
Jake yelled my name several times, finally
saying, “Chloe, if you go up there, I’m done.
with you.”
Liam grabbed my hand tighter, as if afraid I’d
run.
But I won’t, my steps becoming more and
more confident as I stepped onto the stage.
That’s when I noticed, everyone was staring
at us.
Someone handed Liam a microphone.
“There was a little incident earlier. I believe
we should postpone the awards ceremony.
<
“This young lady says that Tiffany Miller’s
song, “Heart’s Whisper,” is stolen.“.
The crowd murmured.
“No way. Tiffany’s the best in our program.
She would never steal a song.”
“Yeah, I saw Tiffany working on that song a
few days ago, I saw it with my own eyes.”
“And she even said that the song was about
someone she liked!”
“How could it be stolen? Is the person she
likes also stolen?”
Tiffany grabbed the mic and began to cry. “Mr. Sterling, I know you’re famous and
everything, but you shouldn’t be so mean just
<
because you think my song is better than
yours.”
Liam chuckled, his deep voice resonating in
my ears.
I thought he was kind of cool.
