Chapter 3
The pain in my wrist was piercing.
But I ignored it, ran straight back to my small rented house, and held the Winnie pillow that Arabella had given me tightly in my arms.
In fact, Arabella had given me many precious gifts.
But after Arabella had an accident, Helga kicked me out and threw all my things into the trash.
It took me half a day to find this old pillow at the dump.
This was the only thing I had now.
I buried my face in the pillow, as if only in this way could I gain some peace and comfort.
Suddenly, someone knocked on the door.
The constant knocking woke me up from
my sleep, and I suddenly realized that I was actually sleeping on the floor.
The injury in my wrist was still untreated.
But I didn’t care.
I was short of money and didn’t want to waste it on treating my wrist. After all, treating Alzheimer’s disease required a lot of money.
When I opened the door, I saw Johnny.
Johnny’s decent attire made him
completely out of place in this environment.
There was a disgusted look on his face.
“Why did you run away? What a crappy
place! Do you live here? It took me a lot of time to find you.”
As Johnny spoke, he walked up and grabbed me, wanting to take me to see a doctor.
Hearing Johnny’s complaints, I felt a little
bitter in my heart.
The Byrne family’s business was vast. Thus, it was very easy for Johnny to find someone if he wanted.
Just like this time, he found my place in just two hours. But actually, he had been ignoring me for the past five years.
Taking advantage of his inattention, I slipped into the room and shut Johnny out.
Johnny angrily pounded on my door, causing some wall paint to come off.
“Lena, do you really think I have plenty of time to waste here? If you don’t come out,
fine. You don’t need to see a doctor then.
It’s none of my business anyway.”
Johnny’s voice was so loud that it annoyed the old lady next door. So, she came out and accused Johnny.
Hearing this, I suddenly felt better in my heart.
Gradually, the sound outside my door
faded, and the surroundings returned to their usual silence. Somehow, a sense of loneliness surged up in my heart.
Two months passed.
During this time, I still commuted between home, the hospital, and the new workplace.
The treatment effect was average, and my condition worsened.
I often forgot where I was and what I had done just now.
So, I started to keep a memo.
My temper became worse. A few days ago, I even mistook my boss for a stranger.
Because I was afraid at that time, I beat my boss up. As a result, I lost a decent–paying job.
In order to make a living, I found a job as a cook in a cafeteria.
My new boss was very nice. I honestly told
her that I had Alzheimer’s disease, but she still agreed to take me in and let me do some simple and easy work.
The memo reminded me that today was Arabella’s birthday.
So, I used the money I had saved and bought a beautiful pen as a birthday gift for Arabella.
The bus had arrived.
When I was about to get on the bus,
Johnny, who I hadn’t seen for a long time,
suddenly appeared.
His sports car cut in and blocked
everyone’s way.
Complaints followed.
But Johnny just rolled down the car window and calmly spoke to me.
“Get in.”
The bus driver kept shouting behind me.
I had no choice but to get in Johnny’s car.
Because Arabella was still lying in bed in a coma, Johnny was in a bad mood and drove fast all the way.
I held onto the handle above my head in
fear.
My stomach went upset, and I vomited as soon as I got out of the car.
Johnny didn’t wait for me. After parking the car, he went straight to Arabella’s ward.
I didn’t care about Johnny’s bad attitude. I happily arrived outside Arabella’s ward and
hid in a corner.
I planned to wait for my parents to finish celebrating Arabella’s birthday and find the right time to put my gift on Arabella’s bedside table.
But at this moment, I heard Connie’s voice.
Anger washed over me, making me lose my mind.
I rushed into Arabella’s ward, grabbed Connie’s hair fiercely, and tried to drag her
out.
It happened so fast that neither Connie’s parents could react in time. But Helga did, and she immediately kicked me out.
With a loud bang, my body hit the chair, causing it to crack.
Instantly, blood filled my mouth and
throat.
Pain surged in my heart.
But I seemed to be unable to feel the pain, using both hands and feet to crawl up as if possessed.
I kept shouting, “How dare she! She can’t stay here!”
Connie pretended to be scared and hid behind Johnny.
Johnny frowned and blocked my way,
saying coldly, “Lena, calm down. She’s your
sister.”
While comforting Connie, Connie’s parents
remarked, “She’s crazy. She must’ve got some mental illness.”
This scene kept stimulating my brain. I
screamed and then ran out of the ward in a
daze.
The pen I bought for Arabella was left there, but it was already broken.
