Chapter 13
Natalie’s face slowly turned from pale white to red, then to a bluish–purple as she struggled
desperately. A horrifying thought rose in her mind.
Fabian seemed like he genuinely wanted to kill her.
Mrs. Carnegie entered the room and let out a terrified scream at the sight.
Fabian’s grip finally loosened as a trace of rationality returned to him. He looked down at Natalie, who now bore nothing but fear in her eyes, and questioned her coldly, enunciating every word.
“On the wedding day, why were you the one to show up? And how did you get Angelina’s wedding ring?”
For the past few days, Fabian had been entirely consumed with searching for Angelina and hadn’t had time to think about anything else.
Now, seeing Natalie again, a string of questions began surfacing in his mind.
Natalie, trembling like a leaf, dared not hide anything. She stammered out the events that had unfolded after Fabian left her that day.
“Not long after you left, I received a package. It contained the pair of wedding rings. As for the wedding dress, someone from the wedding planning company called me and told me to go to the venue.”
“I only thought about taking Angelina’s place in the wedding with you. I didn’t think about
much else…”
Finally free, Natalie scrambled on hands and knees to hide behind Mrs. Carnegie.
Fabian immediately contacted the head of the wedding planning company, his piercing gaze fixed on Natalie.
“If I find out you lied to me, I won’t let you off!”
Minutes later, Fabian received confirmation that, two weeks before the wedding, Angelina had already requested the company to arrange for a different bride at the ceremony.
The lingering doubts in Fabian’s heart finally had an answer, but that answer hit him like a dagger.
So Angelina had started preparing to leave him long before the wedding day.
Fabian dropped to his knees, overwhelmed by the pain. He couldn’t understand how Angelina could be so cruel, leaving him so decisively.
Did their years together mean so little to her?
But deep down, he knew that if he hadn’t succumbed to Natalie’s temptation and betrayed Angelina, she wouldn’t have left him so heartlessly.
Fabian slapped himself hand across the face twice, but the self–reproach within him didn’t lessen one bit
The sudden ringing of his phone broke through his spiral of guilt. It was Daniel, his assistant
“Mr. Fabian, I have news about Mass Angelina fron Miss Dalina.”
Fabian’s eyes lit up instantly “Tell me
“We managed to capture a distant photo of Miss Dalina’s chat with Miss Angelina. Based o the background in the image, we’ve identified that Miss Angelina is likely in New Yoric”
The next moment, a blown–up, blurry photo arred on Fabian’s phone.
Though the image was almost too unclear to recognize faces. Fabian immediately knew it was Angelina.
He stared at the photo with an almost obsessive linging
“Book me the next flight to New York. I’m goingto find Angelina!”
Three hours later, Fabian was on a plane to New
After a five–hour flight, Fabian landed and went straight to the location shown in the photo’s background.
After some inquiries, he finally found the Airbnb where Angelina had been staying.
However, when Fabian showed the host a photo of Angelina to ask about her, he learned that she had just left.
Fabian froze in place, a faint buzzing sound filling his ears. No one understood better than him why Angelina had left in such a hurry.
She must have learned he was coming and fled.
Standing in the room where Angelina had stayed, Fabian could still faintly sense her presence. Her scent hadn’t completely dissipated from the air.
In the bathroom, he found a hair clip she had left behind. He tucked it into his shirt pocke pressing it tightly against his heart.
Inside the pocket was also a photo of Angelina, the only thing that brought him a brief moment of peace each day.
During the time she had been gone, Fabian had dug through his phone for old photos of her. He had printed them out and arranged them on the walls exactly as he remembered.
He had also repurchased every matching item and piece of clothing they once shared.
Only then could he trick himself into believing that Angelina hadn’t truly left him, that she had just gone on a trip and might return any day.
Fabian instructed Daniel to check the train stations and airports for any trace of Angelina.
But this wasn’t Boston. Daniel nearly got arrested as a potential threat and couldn’t gather any information.
