Chapter 9
Fabian’s expression shifted from shock to fury as he grabbed Natalie’s wrist, gritting his teeth as he demanded, “Why is it you? Where’s Angelina?”
Natalie cried out in pain, trying to pull her hand away while feigning confusion.
“Fabian, what are you saying? We’re already legally married. I’m supposed to be the bride. today! Everyone is watching–stop making a scene!”
But Fabian wasn’t listening. His gaze locked onto the wedding ring on Natalie’s finger–the one that was meant for Angelina.
Without hesitation, he yanked the ring off her hand.
Angelina’s fingers were more slender, and the ring had left red marks on Natalie’s hand after only a short time of wearing it.
The guests, Boston’s elite, whispered among themselves as they watched the scene unfold.
Mrs. Carnegie exchanged a look with Mr. Carnegie before rising and walking toward Fabian.
“Fabian, calm down. Whatever’s going on, let’s deal with it after the wedding,” she urged gently.
Everyone tried to pacify him, but Fabian felt like he was losing his mind. His chest tightened, and his body trembled uncontrollably.
It was then he noticed the large screen behind him, which was supposed to be showing photos of him and Angelina’s engagement shoot.
Instead, it displayed wedding photos of him and Natalie.
The memories hit him like a bolt of lightning. These were the photos Natalie had insisted on taking after he agreed to marry her.
As the images flashed on the screen, Fabian’s mind replayed Angelina’s last message to him:
[Angelina]: I hope you enjoy the surprise I’ve prepared for the wedding.
His heart sank, and the taut thread holding him together finally snapped.
Angelina’s words and the reality before him aligned. Now he understood what her “surprise” truly meant.
Natalie stepped closer, cautiously taking his hand with an obsequious smile.
“Fabian, Angelina ran away, but you still have me and the baby. Let’s just finish the wedding…
H
“Get out!”
Fabian’s composure shattered completely. He roared, cutting off Natalie’s words, and next instant, his raised hand struck her across the face with a resounding slap
The force of the blow left Natalie reeling, her head spinning as a red, swollen mark bloomed
on her cheek.
“What nonsense are you spouting?” he shouted.
“Angelina and I love each other. She wouldn’t just leave without a reason. Did you say something to her?”
“And who do you think you are? This is my wedding with Angelina. Even if she isn’t here, you have no right to stand in her place!”
Natalie couldn’t process his words. Her ears rang, and her vision blurred. Staggering, she lost her balance and fell from the nearly one–meter–high stage. A vivid red stain bloomed on her pristine white dress.
My baby! My baby can’t be hurt!” Natalie wailed. “Fabian, my stomach hurts so much…!
The wedding descended into chaos. Guests rushed to help Natalie, but Fabian didn’t spare her a glance.
thoughts were consumed by a single tormenting idea: Natalie claimed Angelina had run away, but he refused to believe it.
Ignoring the pandemonium, Fabian pushed through the crowd, heading in the opposite direction as he dashed out of the wedding venue and sped toward his home.
“Angelina, this must be a joke, right? You’re waiting at home for me to come and get you…”
What should have been a one–hour drive took Fabian only thirty minutes.
But when he flung the door open, all he saw was an empty, hollow house. There was nothing left.
