Chapter 22
“Yes, to me, you are the most important person!”
Fabian almost immediately answered without any hesitation.
Upon hearing this response, Angelina curled her lips into a mocking smile, which pricked at
Fabian’s heart.
She didn’t show any mercy and gave an answer that was completely different from Fabian’s.
“You won’t. You neither want to let me go, nor can you resist the thrill that Natali gives you. Otherwise, you wouldn’t have been so happy when you found out she was pregnant.
“The reason you’re answering this way now is simply because you already know I’m going to leave you. Deep down, you regret not hiding your affair better.”
“If time could turn back, I guess you’d place Natali as far away from me as possible, so that you’d never have to meet her again, and you could have both the fish and the bear’s paw.‘
Fabian’s face turned pale, as if his most secret thoughts had been exposed.
He gripped his palms tightly, unable to stop his body from trembling. His lips moved several times, but it was only after a while that he found his voice again.
“Angelina… you can’t convict me with things that didn’t happen.”
Fabian’s face was full of pain as he shook his head, denying Angelina’s assumptions.
Angelina found Fabian’s self–deceiving expression incredibly laughable. She attempted to smile but couldn’t bring herself to do it.
“Maybe those are just my guesses, but the fact that you betrayed me can’t be changed. Fabian, how dare you think that after all the disgusting things you’ve done, I would forgive you without holding anything against you?”
Fabian’s heart ached again, so much so that he almost couldn’t stand. The engagement ring he had been holding slipped from his hand and rolled to Angelina’s feet.
He looked at Angelina, his gaze stubborn.
“Then why are you still willing to come back? Aren’t you afraid…‘”
Angelina felt a surge of disgust rise within her. Even though Fabian hadn’t finished his sentence, she already knew what he was going to say.
With Fabian’s methods and capabilities, it was entirely possible for him to trap her in Boston.
Originally, she didn’t want to come back at all.
But Antonin was right–avoiding the issue would never solve it at its root.
Only by facing the problem head–on could she be free from it.
That’s why Angelina had agreed to return and meet Fabian, just to completely sever ties with
him.
“Fabian, you should understand the law better than I do. The crime of unlawful detention, I’m sure you don’t want to bear it.”
“I came back this time just to end things with you. After all, your obsession has already affected my normal life.”
After she said this, Angelina turned to leave.
She had barely taken two steps when her wrist was suddenly grabbed by Fabian.
Fabian said nothing, but the pleading in his eyes exposed his thoughts.
He wanted to beg Angelina not to be so heartless, not to leave him again.
All that remained in Angelina’s eyes was disgust. Before she could break free from Fabian’s grip, Antonin walked in.
“My dear, why did you take so long?”
Antonin naturally wrapped his arm around Angelina’s waist and gently kissed her on the
forehead.
Fabian was so stunned by what he saw that he didn’t even notice when Angelina managed to pull her hand out of his.
The shock and pain in his eyes were unmistakable. “Who are you?!”
Antonin took a step back while keeping his arm around Angelina’s waist, wearing a
gentlemanly smile.
“Hello, I’m Antonin, Angelina’s boyfriend. If you ever get the chance, I’d welcome you to visit
Paris.”
Fabian gritted his teeth, not saying anything more, nor did he stop Angelina from leaving.
After Angelina and Antonin walked out side by side, Fabian suddenly spat out a mouthful of blood and collapsed to the ground.
