Chapter 8
Chapter 8
Tessa did not die, but the child fell and broke a leg.
When I went to the hospital to see her, she wasn’t feeling well. She seemed a bit out of sorts, both crying and laughing.
As soon as she saw me, she exclaimed like a fighting cock, “Noemi, you still lost to me. In a life–or–death moment, Antoine chose me.”
After a while, she went crazy and grabbed her hair, crying out, “Antoine did it on purpose! He knew all along that Joe would push the person he cared about downstairs, so he pretended to care about me and used me as a shield for you! Why would he do this to me?”
Finally, she tearfully pleaded with me, “It’s been a week, and he hasn’t come to see me once. Noemi, can you please help me beg him to come and see me?”
I felt a sense of melancholy.
If it weren’t for falling in love with Antoine, with her looks and scheming, I would probably have
had a good life.
I went outside the corridor to call Antoine.
The call was answered quickly over there, “What’s up?”
I took a deep breath and said, “Tessa wants to see you. Her leg was broken, and the child…”
He interrupted before I could finish my sentence, impatiently saying, “Why do you care if she’s dead or alive? As long as you’re alive, isn’t that enough?”
Such a casual attitude, as if Tessa was an insignificant ant.
“Antoine, you were so scary.”
He sneered lightly and said, “If you know, don’t provoke me.”
That night, I had not been asleep for long when someone embraced me from behind.
The familiar scent lingered at the tip of my nose as I half–dreamt and half–awoke, grabbing
Antoine’s mischievous hand.
He turned his body angrily, and I instantly lost my sleepiness. “Let go of me–”
“What kind of attitude are you throwing again?” he gripped my chin, his voice cold. “Is it because I’ve been treating you too well these past few days, that you think you can step on my toes?”
Since the day I was rescued, Antoine rarely troubled me anymore, but instead showed me a bit of
kindness and friendliness.
Islapped his hand away, sat up against the headboard, and sarcastically said, “You were being nice

Chapter 9
I never heard Joe’s name again, he seemed to have disappeared off the face of the earth.
And Tessa, not long after, jumped from the top floor of the hospital and was gone.
To be honest, 1 extremely detested her.
When I heard this news, I didn’t feel happy.
How could my fate be any better than hers?
She died, and Antoine simply said indifferently, “What does it have to do with you? Why bother about these unrelated people?”
Unrelated people?
Yeah, Tessa was just a tool to him.
As for the child, he would be even less concerned.
How could a person be so heartless?
In the past, I thought he was just being paranoid due to hatred.
It was my fault. He was simply naturally cold–hearted.
I found it increasingly difficult to accept Antoine. Every time he approached, it made me feel
unbearable.
My birthday was coming soon.
That day, he gave me a sapphire necklace. After putting it on for me, he hugged me from behind and
kissed my neck.
I wanted to struggle, but he held me even tighter.
The urge to vomit came up again, and I didn’t dare to provoke him, so I weakly said, “Antoine, I
don’t want to.”
He bit me on the shoulder and said, “If not me, then who do you want? Noemi, don’t even think
about it. In your whole life, you can only be mine.”
He threatened me again.
However, he didn’t continue because Zion happened to call.
Two minutes later, he came out of the study and said, “I have to go to Springford for a month. If you
encounter any trouble, just find Bryson. He will help you.”
It’s ridiculous, what trouble could I have besides him?
Chapter 9
But I still nodded.
Zion has followed Antoine for many years, as for Bryson, I have only met him a few times and am not familiar with him, so I suppose I haven’t known him for long.
After Antoine left, the room was still enveloped in his presence.
I felt suppressed, so I changed my clothes, went to the underground garage to get my car, and drove to my own little house.
Antoine was going to Springford for a month, so at least during this time, I could take a little
breather.
It is worth celebrating not having to face his strange and unpredictable behavior anymore.
On my arrival home, I received a message from Alan.
“Noemi, if you haven’t slept, look towards the eastern hill in ten minutes.”
I was a bit confused, so I opened a can of beer and sat on the balcony, drinking and waiting,
Luckily, my house is in a good location with a wide field of vision, otherwise, where could I see any
hills?
Ten minutes later, there was a sudden loud bang in the distance.
I looked up and saw clusters of fireworks exploding one after another.
The colorful fireworks lit up the entire night sky, dazzling beyond belief.
I called Alan, “Did you set off the fireworks?”
His smiling voice came through the receiver, “Happy birthday, the fireworks I sent you, do you like them?”
I looked up at the distance and said, “It’s beautiful, but unfortunately, no matter how beautiful fireworks are, they are only fleeting.”
He said gently, “Then let’s keep the fireworks.”
Two days later, he gave me a beautifully designed pink diamond firework necklace, which looked quite expensive.
I declined, saying, “This is too valuable, I cannot accept it.”
“It’s specially customized for you anyway, if you don’t want it, just throw it away.” He gestured as he was about to throw it down the mountain.
I stopped him and said, “Don’t throw it.”
He curled his lips and smiled, “That’s right.”
The night was beautiful, and I hadn’t had the leisure to appreciate it for a long time.
He handed me a box of milk and said, “I remember you like to drink this.”
I was somewhat surprised, “You know this.”
He laughed, “After all, there aren’t many people who drink milk in a bar. Seeing it once is unforgettable for a lifetime.”
I awkwardly said, “At that time, Antoine didn’t let me drink alcohol-‘
When I heard his name, I paused for a moment and then bit my tongue hard.
Such a pleasant moment, mentioning him would only spoil the mood.
