Chapter 244
“Evelyn Jewelry might not be a household name, and with one blow, public opinion could make it disappear from the industry forever,” Zoey tried to offer comfort over the phone after being woken by her agent with the news.
She called Evelyn immediately, wondering how Evelyn planned to handle the situation so she could issue a statement accordingly.
Yet, it seemed Evelyn was in the dark about the whole affair, clueless about any solution.
Evelyn turned off the speakerphone, not wanting her father, Brian, to worry alongside her. With a calm facade but inner turmoil, she reassured Zoey, “Don’t worry. I’ll have Bobby issue statement first, proving that you decided to collaborate with us only after reviewing our material descriptions and all the proper procedures.
“Anyway, we will try our best to minimize the negative impact on you.”
Evelyn, having learned of the issue through the internet and Zoey, was aware that Zoey’s call was about the endorsement deal.
“Evelyn, don’t say that. It’s not how I do things. Regardless of the investigation’s outcome, I stand with Evelyn Jewelry. I can’t just think about my own benefits. Let me talk to my agent,” Zoey responded before quickly ending the call, both understanding the urgency of resolving the matter without further ado.
No matter what Zoey said, Evelyn would do what she could to reduce any possible impact on the former.
As soon as Zoey hung up, Bobby finally called.
Sounding drained, he greeted, “Evelyn, about the company’s situation…”
Evelyn got straight to the point: “Tell me everything. The cause and the current state.”
Colin arrived at the office early to find someone wearing a mask and holding signs at the entrance.
At that time, he didn’t ponder on it. When the reality hit him after seeing the online uproar and subsequent media reports, he realized the person he saw was the alleged victim.
Colin relayed everything to Evelyn, adding, “Now, there’s a crowd outside the office. And more importantly, we’re seeing a mass of refund requests online, along with high–profile clients wanting their money back.”
Evelyn knew what Zoey said was true..
Such public sentiment could easily crush Evelyn Jewelry.
The refund requests meant all of Evelyn Jewelry’s cash flow was in jeopardy, with products remaining unsold and the brand potentially blacklisted.
When she was about to speak, someone came to her.
It was Caleb, who was standing tall and imposing before her, holding a document.
Just the divorce papers she needed.
Their eyes met, saying everything that needed to be said without words.
