Chapter 16
The days passed month by month.
Darrell maintained a rhythm of flying twice a month, never interrupted.
And Alexzander has not come again since that time he came to see me.
He just called me once using his friend’s phone in the middle.
But every time I heard his voice, I would hang up immediately.
When spring arrived, my birthday was also approaching.
Because I missed my two uncles very much, I went back to my home country with Darrell for a trip.
That day at the family banquet, Darrell suddenly mentioned to his uncle about wanting to get
married to me.
I was a bit surprised, but my uncles were all very happy.
I had no resistance in my heart, as if I was also very happy.
The matter of getting the license was set on my birthday.
The wedding also had to start slowly preparing.
The night before getting married, I made plans to meet up with my best girlfriends.
Darrell said, “I could freely spend an entire night playing with my good friends while I was still
unmarried.”
Once I receive my certificate tomorrow, I will no longer be allowed to stay out all night.
During dinner that evening, I happened to run into some friends from Alexzander’s circle.
When my girlfriends and I went to that popular internet–famous nightclub after dinner.
I saw Alexzander as soon as I got out of the car.
He stood by the station, his gaze fixed on me without a blink.
The wind in Rosebeach was still cold in early spring.
I shrunk my neck and tightened my coat.
He walked in without looking sideways.
Alexzander did not call me either.
My friends and I didn’t really like this noisy place.

So, after staying for a while, we prepared to leave.
We wanted to find a quiet club to have tea and chat.
But as soon as I stood up, Alexzander called out to me.
“Sophia, since you have come back, please do not go to Foxedge anymore.”
I felt incredulous and inexplicable.
He bypassed him and was ready to leave.
Alexzander, however, stopped me again.
“I did not throw away these earrings.”
He opened his palm, and the brilliance of the diamond earring still shone brightly.
When I first received this birthday gift, I was extremely happy yet subtly disappointed.
But it still stayed with me every day, never leaving my side.
But when I finally decided to let go completely, I left this pair of earrings in his apartment and
didn’t take them with me.
“I have been thinking a lot these days.”
“It was not wrong of you to not want to have a relationship before marriage.”
“The last time of the Cold War, you didn’t want to bow down, and you were not wrong.”
“I shouldn’t have intentionally provoked you and made you angry.‘
“But Sophia, all of this, is only because I still liked you, you were in my heart.”
Alexzander pointed at his tie and showed me the cufflinks on his sleeve.
“You see, the things you gave me, I used them every day.”
“Sophia, we talked for two years, not two days or two months.”
“I know you couldn’t bear to let it go, right?”
I was really fed up with his excuses.
I also knew it very well.
He was just too smooth sailing and too high and mighty.
He never got what he wanted.
Never having, gaining, and losing again.

That’s why I was unwilling and stubbornly kept entangling,
To say that one likes and cares is somewhat too cheap.
“But I am getting married tomorrow.”
“Alexzander, you also look forward.”
“Sophia!”
“You can be stubborn, and you can even get engaged out of spite.”
‘But marriage is not a trivial matter, don’t gamble away your whole life just because you are angry
with me…”
I forcefully pushed away his hand, saying, “Alexzander, you were not that important.”
“You were no longer important a long time ago.”
I looked at him seriously for the last time.
“Alexzander, I wouldn’t joke about my lifelong matters for someone who is no longer important.”
That seemed to be the first time I saw such an expression on Alexzander’s face.
He was always aloof, lazy, and relaxed, not caring about anything.
Even though I cried and said goodbye every time.
At most, he merely furrowed his brows and irritably went to smoke.
But now he stood there motionless.
Those eyes,
which were always charming and passionate, seemed to have completely fallen silent.
But how long would he be sad or in pain if he was sad or in pain?
I had no more connection with them.
