Chapter 9 Position
“It proves you still love me. Why else would you get engaged? Otherwise, who would want to marry someone else’s used goods?”
Engaged?
I never said I was getting engaged.
“Who told you I’m getting engaged?”
William laughed. “What else could the good news be? Stop pretending. And you know what? Ava’s pregnancy turned out to be a molar pregnancy… Not only did she lose the baby, but she might be paralyzed for the rest of her life.”
He started laughing at his own words.
Then he turned to me and said, “You must be thrilled to hear this, right? I came specially to tell you this news today!”
He eagerly searched my face for signs of joy.
Instead, all he found was infinite disgust.
Sure, I hated Ava to my core, and this molar pregnancy was karma catching up to her.
But this man… he was truly rotten to the core.
Chapter 9 Position
He was absolutely shameless!
2/4
The woman he once swore he loved, now he’s laughing about her being paralyzed for life.
I pushed him away and ordered the security guards to remove him.
As I got in the car, he had that smug look that screamed, “I’m going to be your boss soon, how dare you mess with me.”
Fed up with his attitude, I said, “As for what that good news is, you’ll find out in a couple of days.”
That comment only made him happier.
He knew that in two days, they’d announce the new VP position.
He eagerly followed me into the car.
“Did you put in a good word with your brother?”
I stayed quiet, then smiled at him and said, “Haven’t you been to the hospital these days? To check your infertility?”
William responded with complete confidence. “I know you’re just trying to get under my skin. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with me. Don’t you think I know my own body?”
Seeing his cocky attitude, I had nothing more to say and just told the driver to leave.
The day of the VP announcement finally arrived.
Heaven Group had gone all out with the preparations.
Flowers, coffees, they’d even invited reporters.
Even William’s direct supervisor hadn’t received final confirmation of the appointment, and seeing William’s confident demeanor, he came over to ask.
“Did
you really convince Ms. Haven? Is the position yours?”
William nodded with a smile.
“She told me herself that day. She said I’d find out about the good news today. What else could it be… obviously it’s my promotion!”
When the announcement time came, everyone was waiting for the company intranet notice and the arrival of the new Vice President.
Right then, the notice came through.
[New Vice President: Scarlett Haven!]
Surrounded by reporters, I walked into the office and announced my first order since taking office.
“Starting today, William from the Planning Department will be transferred to Internal Operations, with a reduction in both
salary and position.”
“Scarlett! What’s the meaning of this?!”
William slammed the desk and stood up in anger.
“Why did headquarters send you here? Is it because you’re some rich. daddy’s girl? I won’t accept this! Anyone else who objects should speak up! Let’s fight this together!”
Usually, there would be opposition to such parachute appointments, but this time, surprisingly, no one joined his cause.
William looked at them frantically, calling them cowards.
“Mr. Pierce, if you’re so opposed to going to Internal Operations, you can take unpaid leave instead. Go to HR to process the paperwork!”
William refused to believe what was happening. He kept shouting, but when HR showed him the already prepared contract, real fear finally set in.
He rushed to my office and dropped to his knees with a loud thud.
