“Still dressed like a pauper. I shouldn’t have invited you. Oh, and my mom says that lump of flesh you gave birth to was bad luck. We won’t be attending the burial.”
A lump of flesh?
I laughed scornfully.
William, I’d love to see you try saying that once you know the truth!
“Whatever! He didn’t have a father anyway.”
Just as I finished speaking, my father made his entrance.
William turned to my father and sneered, “Scarlett, did you bring your unsophisticated old man here to mooch off the expensive food and drinks?”
I nodded. “You can think that if you want, but I hope you won’t regret those words later.”
As soon as my father entered, several of the uncles stood up.

They started straightening their clothes and even pulled out sanitizing wipes to clean their hands before extending them to my father!
“Sir, we didn’t expect to see you here!“.
My father smiled kindly and said, “Just accompanying my daughter. By the way, none of you have met her before, have you?”
The uncles shook their heads.
My dad waved me over.
“Scarlett, come here and say hello to your uncles.”
William’s eyes went wide when he saw them..
He grabbed my arm as I was about to walk over.
“Your dad knows the higher–ups at Heaven Group? Why didn’t you ever tell me?
“You did this on purpose!”
Ava remained cool–headed and pulled William’s hand away. “Her dad used to be in business. He lost money, but he still has some superficial connections. Those executives are probably just being polite.”
William thought that made sense.
family had such connections.
So he let it go.
“When is Heaven Group’s CEO arriving? Didn’t you ask about the timing?”
William pressed anxiously while Ava opened WhatsApp to find the contact information.
Ava: [When will you arrive? I’ll come pick you up!]
She sent the message confidently.
But all she got was a red exclamation mark.
She quickly covered her phone and told William. “He said he’ll be here soon, just finishing up a meeting.”
William nodded and walked away. I watched as Ava kept trying to add the account using her alternate profiles.
My phone suddenly started buzzing with friend requests.
I accepted them.
But I never sent a single reply.
When the wedding day arrived, neither Kennedy nor Tiana showed
- up.
The auspicious time had passed, and guests were getting confused when my family’s driver arrived carrying a wedding gift from Kennedy and Tiana.
“A gift from Mr. Haven of Heaven Group has arrived!”
William excitedly rushed down from the stage, and Ava was just as thrilled.
I glanced at my father and said, “Well, Kennedy’s being generous. Not showing up but sending a gift.”
My father smiled, “I’m quite curious what they sent!”
My father and I waited expectantly.
Ava carried the huge box onto the stage.
She excitedly announced, “I haven’t told everyone yet, but the CEO of Heaven Group is actually my brother… He’s been so good to me all these years. I thought he’d be too busy to come today, but…”
She became so emotional that tears started rolling down her cheeks.
“But he still sent his blessings to me. Now, let me open this wedding gift from my brother!”
