Chapter 5 Making This Up
I knew what he meant.
“Kennedy, I’m sorry…”
In response to my apology, Kennedy had only one thing to say.
“Stop apologizing. All I want is for you to be healthy.”
After being discharged that day, my parents bought a house nearby, and the whole family moved in.
The divorce proceedings with William went smoothly.
Not long after, Ava sent me a wedding invitation.
They were getting married!
At the same time, an identical invitation was sent to my old address.
However, this one was written with more intimacy and respect.
[Dear Sir Haven, I hope you can attend my wedding. I’d like to thank you in person for all your guidance over the years!]
Ava handwrote it.
My father handed it to me.

“Should Dad go?”
“Yes, let’s all go.”
Their wedding was extravagant. William must have learned about Ava’s connection to Heaven Group from her because he used that relationship to invite many senior executives from Heaven Group.
The moment I reached the wedding reception, Ashley, whom I hadn’t seen in days, greeted me with her first words.
“Well, well, if it isn’t our old barren hen coming to visit?”
“I’m here to give William a special wedding gift.”
Ashley looked at me with disdain, wondering what gift I could offer.
She walked over to see.
I grabbed her face and slapped her hard.
“Since fireworks aren’t allowed these days, I figured a loud smack would work just as well as a blessing.”
“You! I’m telling my son right now. Let’s see how he deals with you!”
I smiled and pointed to the Heaven Group executives seated inside.

“Go ahead! Make a bigger scene. I’d love to see you ruin your son’s promotion in the process.”
After a long moment, she fell silent in frustration.
Her eyes were filled with venom as she glared at me.
“You’ll pay for this!”
She spat out the threat and stormed off.
As I walked in, I saw Ava greeting guests in her haute couture reception dress.
When she spotted me, she walked over with a bright smile.
Strangely, her belly showed a slight bump. It was unusual for how far along she should be.
Before I could process this, Ava had already grabbed my arm enthusiastically.
“I knew you’d come. We’re best friends! You wouldn’t miss special day.”

She leaned in close to whisper in my ear, “You know how much this dress cost? Heaven Group gave it to me as a wedding gift.
“I remember your wedding… just a dinner at a cheap restaurant, right? Your parents were so stingy and poor…”

She proudly held out her hand in front of my face.
The diamond was quite dazzling, I had to admit.
“I told William I didn’t want it! I’m not materialistic like Scarlett. But William said he’s getting promoted to VP–next month, so this ring is like an early celebration.”
Next month?
Talk about counting your chickens before they hatch!
“Where’s this Heaven Group CEO of yours? Are you making this up?”
She snapped at me, “Important people don’t show up this early. You think everyone’s like you?”
