Chapter 89: The Things We Insist On
Chloe went straight back to her room. After taking a shower, removing her makeup, and changing into a comfortable outfit, she sat down by the window. This time, Mia had booked a sea–view room, so when she sat by the window, she could see the vast ocean outside.
Although it was nighttime and she couldn’t see the ocean clearly, she could hear the sound of the waves crashing. Listening to those sounds calmed her restless heart.
Looking up, she noticed the stars in the sky were particularly beautiful. The farther she was from the city, the brighter the stars appeared.
Both the sound of the waves and the starry sky brought Chloe an unprecedented sense of peace and tranquility.
What she didn’t know was that in the neighboring room, someone was watching her–Daniel.
Daniel thought Chloe looked incredibly gentle at that moment. The moonlight cast a soft glow over her, making her seem extraordinarily tender.
Chloe sensed someone was watching her and instinctively turned around, meeting Daniel’s affectionate gaze.
For a moment, she was taken aback, unsure of what to say.
“I thought you didn’t notice me, but here, this is for you,” Daniel said, smiling as he opened his palm to reveal an earring.
Chloe instinctively touched her earlobe; she hadn’t noticed the missing earring while changing clothes.
Seeing the earring in Daniel’s hand confirmed it was hers, but she didn’t know how he found it.
“Thank you for picking up my earring,” she said.
Daniel shook his head with a smile, then turned to look at the dark sea. His voice suddenly became a bit hollow.
“Do you know? Over the years, I’ve traveled to many places, both at home and abroad- beaches, grasslands, and other locations. But sitting here, I suddenly feel an unusual tranquility. It’s not just that this place hasn’t been overly commercialized; the beach and the night sky give a calming power. No matter how restless one feels, in this moment, they can find peace. I don’t know what you think, but I feel like your feelings just now are the same as
mine.”
At that moment, Daniel’s expression was also somewhat tender.
Chloe didn’t respond, as her feelings mirrored Daniel’s. Being here made her heart feel extraordinarily calm. Even with Daniel beside her, she didn’t feel anything out of place.

In fact, she realized that such moments of peace were rare.
Sometimes, it’s very important to allow oneself to relax because only by doing so can one see things that were previously overlooked.
For instance, she had been entangled with Julian for so long.
Now, she felt there was no need to continue that entanglement. What was the point in it anyway?
Chloe remained silent, but Daniel sensed something strange in her gaze.
“Do you have something to say to me? If you do, just say it. There’s no need to hold back. I think we’re still friends, right?”
That was true. Chloe organized her thoughts and wanted to be tactful, but she felt being subtle wouldn’t help, so she said directly, “What I want to say is that you know some things are futile no matter how hard you try. If there’s no result, then your efforts are meaningless, right?”
Daniel didn’t find her words strange. If she hadn’t said them, that would have been odd.
“What you said makes some sense, but you’re not me and don’t know whether I’m willing or not. Even if it’s meaningless, that’s only relative. Maybe it doesn’t matter to you, but to me, it’s significant.”
“So the outcome this time might not be what you expect, and it might even disappoint you! What do you think?” Chloe pressed on, genuinely wanting Daniel to give up.
But she also knew that if Daniel didn’t take the initiative, no one could make him let go.
Daniel smiled, “So what? If it’s as you say, I’ll accept it.”
Such persistence might help in other matters, but when it comes to emotions, it had no effect.
So Chloe fell silent again, saying nothing more, continuing to look at the dark sea and listening to the sound of the waves.
At that moment, both of them fell silent, gazing at the calm sea. Finally, Daniel turned to enter his room and drew the curtains, giving himself the last bit of tranquility.
Chloe let out a breath. She had been a bit afraid that Daniel would stay with her, but thankfully, he had a sense of boundaries and chose to retreat.
After all, Daniel was someone who understood boundaries well, making her feel comfortable.
That was a million times better than Julian, who could be completely reckless at times, caring little for anyone’s feelings and only seeking his own comfort.
But Chloe couldn’t help but sigh. Ultimately, she couldn’t control what others did; the only thing she could manage was herself.

No matter what others wanted to do or think, as long as she held onto her own heart, that was enough.
When Chloe stepped away from the window, preparing to go downstairs to buy something, she opened the door and was startled to see someone standing outside.
It was none other than Julian.
He must have been waiting at the door for a while. The sudden opening of the door startled him, leaving her bewildered. What was he thinking?
“Are you out of your mind? Why are you here scaring me at this hour?”
Chloe bit her lip in frustration, finding him completely insane, not caring about anyone’s feelings, and just acting impulsively at any time.
What was he doing here, completely unconcerned about causing trouble?
