Chapter 87: Jealousy
Julian was finally dancing with Chloe in the middle of the floor, but the moment he saw Daniel approaching her, he nearly lost his temper. What was that guy thinking, getting close to Chloe? There was no way he would let Daniel have that chance, so he stepped in without hesitation.
His heart was burning with jealousy, yet when facing Chloe, his expression softened completely, looking at her with warmth as if he wanted to give her the best of everything. This gentle demeanor not only affected Chloe but also stirred Layla, who couldn’t believe Julian was being so tender with Chloe while he usually seemed indifferent to her.
Layla had planned to calm down and talk to Chloe after the dance, but when she saw Daniel holding Chloe’s waist and spinning her around, she lost control of her anger. After all the years with Chloe, Julian had never seriously danced with her like that, let alone spun her around. It infuriated him to see Daniel doing exactly what he had never done.
At that moment, Julian realized he couldn’t treat Chloe with indifference anymore. He cared about her, and he was determined to do whatever it took to win her back.
“Chloe, the last time I came to your house, you weren’t there. I later found out you were traveling. I wanted to see where you were, but Daniel misled me to keep me from finding you. Luckily, we seem to have a connection, and I finally found you again.”
“I’ve missed you so much. Are you still mad at me? You have every right to be, considering I’ve been late in reaching out,” he said, looking deeply into her eyes, making Chloe feel like she was the most important person to him.
However, she noticed a murderous glare directed at her; it was no surprise that Layla would confront her. They were clearly a couple now, and Layla’s hostility towards her was
understandable. Anyone in her position would feel the same, and it was impressive that Chloe could keep quiet despite the tension.
Chloe avoided answering any of Layla’s potential questions. Honestly, she couldn’t figure out what Julian meant by his words. Their past entanglements had settled into silence, and discussing it now felt pointless and even nauseating.
She didn’t respond, pretending his words didn’t matter, focusing instead on their feet as they danced. Compared to the ease with which she danced earlier, standing with Julian felt heavy and disinterested.
“I’ve been thinking a lot lately. I know you have grievances against me, and both Wyatt and Daniel are just excuses for your anger,” Julian continued. “I understand you’re trying to make me realize how much I care about you. I know now how important you are to me.”
He confessed to his mistakes in the past and pleaded for another chance to make it right, claiming his heart still belonged to her and that he would always love her. “Just look back at

Hearing these words from Julian felt off to Chloe. After so many years, she had never seen him lower himself like this; he always held a superior attitude. Now, though he was bowing his head, his confidence still suggested he was trying to make her feel something, expecting her
to react.
If this were before, Chloe might have been thrilled to see him humbled, but now it felt unnecessary and almost ridiculous.
“After all these years, you must know how I feel about you. I truly care for you. We have so many beautiful memories together. Are you really going to treat me and our relationship so coldly?”
As he spoke, Julian grew more animated, gripping her hand tightly. Chloe frowned, instinctively wanting to pull away, but she couldn’t match his strength.
“You’re hurting me. If you don’t want to dance, let go now,” she said coldly, prompting Julian to release her.
“I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to,” he mumbled, but no matter what he did, Chloe ignored him.
Once the song ended, Chloe finally exhaled in relief, a gesture that stung Julian’s heart. Was it really that unbearable to be with him?
“The past is behind me. I may not be able to erase those memories, but I will let them go and not allow them to affect my life anymore.”
