Chapter 8
I didn’t want to meddle with them, but I was stopped before I could leave the hospital.
Corey’s mother came with a large entourage of bodyguards.
She saw me walking out at a glance.
She was shrewd and high–maintenance.
So, I treated her with a gentle and amiable attitude.
But now, I became indifferent to her.
She crossed her arms and looked me up and down with her usual contemptuous gaze.
“Lena, it’s been years, and you’re still so petty.”
But I didn’t indulge her.
“What do you want?”
Surprised by my cold attitude, she was left momentarily speechless, and then she became even angrier and spoke up, “I entrusted Ethan to your care, and look at what good you’ve
done.
“If Sienna hadn’t told me, I wouldn’t have known that he was almost dead.

I smiled and said, “I forgot to tell you. I’m about to divorcetarey, and I don’t intend to fight for custody of your precious Ethan. Isn’t this great news for you?”
There was indeed a trace of joy in her eyes.
“Mom, she’s talking nonsense. Don’t listen to her. She’s just throwing
a tantrum.” Corey suddenly walked over with Sienna whose eyes were red and swollen from crying.
As soon as he came over, he grabbed my hand, somewhat anxiously, and said, “Ethan has been admitted to the ICU. How could you still
idle about?”
“So? Who insisted on having that fish soup?” I said sarcastically.
Sienna cried even more sorrowfully.
“The seller did say it was river fish. I never expected her to fool me.
“It’s all my fault.”
Corey’s mother gently took Sienna’s hand. “Sienna, this isn’t your fault. Lena is still here.
“She didn’t even fulfill her responsibilities as a mother.”
While saying that, she shot me a fierce glare.
Corey also comforted Sienna in a gentle voice, “You meant well. If Lena had cooked fish soup, and Ethan had it, nothing would have gone wrong. It’s not your fault.”

I just found the scene in front of me somewhat funny.
Corey and his mom were so lenient towards the culprit who harmed Ethan.
Instead, the one at fault was me.

Just because I was Corey’s wife and Ethan’s mother, if something went wrong with either of them, it must be my fault.
Sienna was still crying and murmuring that she had been fooled while casting a provocative glance at me.
I didn’t panic, either. I lowered my head and took out my phone to search for a while.
The takeout shop’s name was right on the packaging box.
Fortunately, there was only one restaurant nearby.
The phone was quickly answered, and I asked, “Hello? Are your fish sea fish or river fish?”
The restaurant sounded busy, and the boss spoke with a tone of impatience, yelling loudly. Everyone on my side could hear it clearly.
“What kind of stupid question is that? It’s clearly written on my sign that it’s not river fish. How could anyone mistake it for river fish? Are you illiterate?”
Crying, comforting voices, and accusations stopped at this
moment.

She opened and closed her mouth several times, repeating it as if she didn’t know how to speak, and her expression was stiff and awkward.
Corey’s eyes flashed with a hint of puzzlement as he released his grip on Sienna.
