Chapter 56
Aron looked at the barren mountain in front of him and frowned. “Mr. Thomas, you brought me here just to see a barren. mountain?”
David looked at the barren mountai, his eyes burning with anticipation, and said. “This isn’t just some random pile of rocks. What’s stashed inside could make even you, the biggest gunrunner in Irinland, sit up and take notice.”
“Oh yeah?” Aron challenged with a skeptical raise of an eyebrow “If what’s inside is so hot, why hasn’t Caleb posted any guards!”
David let out a cold laugh, his eyes narrowing. “Looks pretty quiet right now, doesn’t it? What’s the matter. Mr. Quinn? Getting cold feet about stepping in? Or maybe you’re just scared to cross paths with Caleb?”
Scoffing at David’s taunt, Aron straightened up and followed. “Well, if you’re so sure it’s worth my time, lead on, Mr. Thomas. Let’s have a look.”
They pushed into the cave, navigating a tight passage for about ten minutes until they came up against a closed hefty metal
gate.
“Looks like you missed a detail,” Aron said, raising his eyebrow
Without a word. David raised his hand and claped twice. A guy stepped out from the shadows, keys in hand, and in no time the gate swung open. David stood by the now open gateway, smirked, and tilted his head toward Aron. “Would I have invited you if I wasn’t ready for everything?” Then he strutted through the entrance.
Aron paused, then trailed close behind. “Well done, Mr. Thomas. But you aren’t worried Caleb’s gonna catch wind of this?” David gave a slight shrug as they walked “Who doesn’t like getting their hands on something top–shelf?”
From the outside, the mountain looked desolate, but inside was a cave leading all the way up to the peak. The cave opened up to a vast and empty space, at the center of which stood a large, artificial platform. On top of the platform were dozens of hefty boxes. Aron ran his hand over one of the boxes, noting the layer of waterproof paint that coated it. Over sixty boxes Joaded with weapons–these weren’t just any boxes, they were enormous.
Aron casually flipped open one of the boxes to reveal it stuffed to the brim with TRG–42 sniper rifles. His lips curled into a cold smirk. One of the top ten sniper rifles in the world, and here was a whole box of them. He sidestepped and popped open another–sure enough, more TRG–42s. The Mercer family’s operation in Glovia was impressive. Even though Caleb had been cleaning up his image for years, the underground dealings might rival Aron’s operations back in Irinland.
“So, what do you think? David asked, eyes shining. “Do Caleb’s items on clearance hold a candle to what you’ve got back in Romaine?”
Aron slammed the chest shut, kicking up a cloud of dust. “Not bad at all. But would you honestly let these slip through your fingers to me? If you had your hands on these, the Thomas family wouldn’t have been under the Mercer family’s thumb for all these years, right?” he asked.
David casually brushed the dust from his hands and said, “Age is catching up with me; competing isn’t my game anymore. The future of Clovia? That’s for you young folks.”
The faint hunt of a sneer played on Aron’s lips. Crafty old fox, he thought, figuring David couldn’t handle Caleb’s arsenal and needed a fall guy. He masquerades as a mentor, but his play’s transparent
“Alright, you’ve seen the goods. Caleb is eager to offload this batch of weapons to Irinland recently. It will happen in the next couple of days. If you move fast, getting a toehold in Clovia coull be a matter of days,” said David.
Aron faced David, his gaze narrowing “Easy there. Mr. Thomas Don’t count your chickens before they hatched. Mercer, Thomas, Johnson–Clovia’s run by these big three, and here I am fresh off the boat. I’m no fool to just waltz in on their

David responded with a meaningful smile, “Well, Mr. Quinn, once upon a time, Glovia saw the golden days of four ruling families. If we can bring back that era, it’s what people are hoping for.”
