As Caleb mulled things over, his ride rolled up to Julius’s mansion, the path lined by bodyguards in sleek, black suits standing at attention.
Julius was lounging on the sofa straight ahead from the grand entrance, with a chubby guy, all sweat and wide-eyed, kneeling next to his feet
The moment Caleb strolled in calmly, Julius couldn’t help but let out an intrigued chuckle, “Hey, Mr. Mercer, walking into my place alone? Aren’t you afraid I’ll keep you here?”
“I’m sure the godfather’s son wouldn’t do something like that, Caleb answered quickly.
He sat down and glanced at the sweating man on his knees. So. Julius, any problem with me taking this guy off your hands?”
“Ah, he’s no saint, but he’s useful. The rest of my guys wouldn’t be too happy to lose him,” Julius said.
Julius’s words hit the man hard, and he slumped down, silent, scared witless about getting his family in the mess. The reality hit him-he messed with the wrong girl. He wished he’d stayed clear of Evelyn at the party!
Caleb didn’t wait around. He pulled out some official-looking papers from his briefcase and handed them over.
Julius grabbed them, skimmed through quickly, and then burst out laughing. With a lazy flick of his hand, his henchmen took the petrified guy away.
“Mr. Mercer, you’re a big deal in Clovia, no joke. 1 like how you do business-no messing around. I’ve got enough tough guys, so take him.”
Caleb gave a small, dry laugh, got up, and said, “Alright, Julius, catch you later. And hey, I hear Aron’s your nephew?”
That made Julius’s eyes go sharp, and his smile kind of mysterious. “More like a friend, or a brother.”
Caleb gave a nod and then took off
He sat back in the car, closed his eyes, and tried to find some peace while Colin drove to the hospital. Right as they got there. before Colin could say a word, Caleb was already on the move and said. “Take care of this. I’m getting ready to go home.” And then he was gone, heading down the hallway.
Colin sat in the driver’s seat, watching Caleb’s fast exit, and thought to himself, That’s how true leaders roll. Mr. Mercer just walked into Julius’s place, which was bristling with guns, without blinking an eye!
He was about to start on Caleb’s task when he caught a glimpse of someone familiar at the entrance. He frowned with confusion. Before he could take a second look, the figure was gone, Colin shook his head and drove away,
And the person he saw was Evelyn, hitting the hospital alone fora routine check-up.
In the morning, Aron made some breakfast, relieved that Evelyn stomach pain seemed minor. After checking on her, he went to the office.
Left alone, Evelyn grabbed her stomach and winced. The pain was intense. She’d been hurting on and off for a while, and it was time to get it checked,
She spent hours at the hospital getting tests done. The doctor with a beard looked worried as he read the results.
“Ms. Brin, these tests show that you’re not doing too well. We dont have your old records, so you should go back to your previous hospital. They’ll have what we need to figure out what wrong and how to fix it”
Evelyn went pale. She thanked the doctor, trying to stay calm, ad walked out.
