Chapter 26
“You want a baby, right? I’m just doing what you asked for in the first place, aren’t I?’ Evelyn felt dizzy, the harsh words ringing in her ears non-stop.
She thought, ‘What does Caleb think of me? Just some baby-making machine? He is the one who didn’t want a baby in the first place, pushing me to drop it. And now he’s acting all different!
Evelyn was rushing away when a sharp pain in her waist hit her like a knife. She grabbed the spot and hunched over, using a bush for some support.
The pain was relentless, a familiar ache from an old injury flaring up.
Blurring tears obscured her vision, but the sound of quick footsteps caught her attention.
“Evelyn”” Aron’s comforting voice cut through as he looked at her, worried.
Evelyn looked up and managed a weak smile, about to tell him she was okay, but a wave of pain cut her off, making her grimace
“Evelyn, what happened? Where does it hurt?”
Aron swooped her up into his arms, his face a portrait of remorse. He’d been too wrapped up in the party and didn’t realize she had left until it was brought to his attention. It took someone else’s reminder for him to learn that, during his absence, someone had the nerve to bother her. He shouldn’t have taken her to this place at all!
Limp in Aron’s arms, Evelyn could barely muster the strength to shake her head and respond, “I’m alright; it’s probably just my stomach-1 skipped dinner, Can you take the to the hotel, Aron?”
Caught between her stoic demeanor and his own concern, Aron, with a sigh, nodded and started to carry her back.
Once in the hotel room, he gently placed her on the bed and got her water, staying close as she swallowed her medicine. Only then did he allow himself to take a breath
“I won’t leave your side. Get some rest,” said Aron.
Evelyn closed her eyes, comforted by the medication and Aron’s presence. He watched her for a moment, love and worry in his eyes. He draped a blanket over her and moved to the couch in the next roomt
The next morning, Evelyn’s eyes fluttered open in her cozy hotel room, the events of last night rushing back to her. After a quick wash-up, she opened the door and no surprise–found Aron crashing on the couch.
The sound of the door stirring brought Aron awake. He sat up and flashed her a soft smile. “Morning, Evelyn. How are you feeling? Need to swing by the ER?”
Her heart warmed at the sight of him sticking around all night. Evelyn shook her head gently. The old pain was acting up again, yet revealing that to Aron seemed like a wrong move. She’d only end up worrying him, and that was the last thing she wanted. Silently, she made a mental note to get back to Clusia for a checkup real soon.
“You okay? You’re kinda miles away, Hungry? How about I rustle up some breakfast? What are you in the mood for?”
He gently nudged her back to the present moment. Kindness swam in his gaze, a tenderness he hadn’t come to terms with just yet.
Arad embarrassed by his attention, Evelyn tried to sidestep his touch. The hotel aimed for a homey vibe, decking out each space with a nifty kitchenette. Oddly enough, Evelyn hadn’t give it a single go
She wasn’t sure if it had what they needed, but the hotel made sire fresh ingredients were really for their guests every
