Chapter 7 Worth the Effort to Bring Her Here
Sofia stared at her arm for a long time, pursing her lips. She was making a sacrifice for medical science!
After some time, she regained her composure.
Sofia hid her things and slipped into the bathroom to freshen up.
She couldn’t let anyone see her skin, so she chose a long–sleeved shirt to
wear.
When she arrived at the dining room, Older Mr. Hart noticed her and asked, “Sofia, it’s nearly 40 degrees today. Aren’t you hot in that shirt?”
“Grandfather, I’m fine,” Sofia replied.
In fact, it shouldn’t have been hot inside the house, but her body was special. She didn’t feel cold, but she couldn’t handle heat at all.
She had applied a whole sheet of ice pack to her back, which somewhat relieved the discomfort of wearing long sleeves in the sweltering heat.
And all of this was because of Nathaniel Hart!
Stirring her porridge, Sofia saw that Older Mr. Hart had finished breakfast. She put down her spoon and looked at him, saying, “Grandfather, there’s something I want to discuss with you.”
“What is it?” Older Mr. Hart asked.
“Well, Grandfather, I want to try treating Mr. Hart’s condition,” Sofia said.

Older Mr. Hart hesitated for a moment upon hearing this before responding, “Sofia, it’s not that I don’t trust you. I know you’re a good doctor. But Nathaniel’s situation… I’ve brought renowned doctors from around the world, and none have been able to help. Sofia, I don’t want to be disappointed again.”
Sofia pressed her lips together, fully understanding Older Mr. Hart’s
concerns.
She explained, “Grandfather, I’m not saying I can definitely cure Mr. Hart. I just want to assist him as a doctor so that his condition isn’t so uncomfortable until we find a better treatment in the future.”
Older Mr. Hart nodded gratefully at Sofia. “Sofia, you’re putting so much effort into helping Nathaniel. I truly appreciate it.”
Sofia smiled and said, “Grandfather, you know how Mr. Hart resists doctors. I’m afraid he’ll be angry if I reveal my profession.”
Initially, Sofia could have treated Nathaniel discreetly, but being a doctor wasn’t a secret.
There were aspects that required Older Mr. Hart’s cooperation, so after much deliberation, Sofia decided it was best to be upfront with him.
Older Mr. Hart understood Sofia’s intentions and nodded. “Alright, let’s talk to Nathaniel today. If he dares to get upset with you, I’ll will handle him for you.”
Sofia thanked Older Mr. Hart and said, “Thank you, Grandfather. I’ll go to work now. Tonight, when I return, I’ll study Mr. Hart’s case and devise a treatment plan for him.”
Older Mr. Hart nodded, watching Sofia leave with satisfaction.

Housekeeper Gregory, who was nearby, remarked, “Master, Miss. Schneider is more thoughtful than expected.”
Older Mr. Hart glanced at him and said, “She’s not like the other Schneider family members. It was worth the effort to bring her here.”
“You took quite a risk, Master. If the Schneider family had sent another young lady instead…” Housekeeper Gregory trailed off.
“You don’t understand them well enough. They avoid anything that might be seen as advantageous. Marrying someone like Nathaniel, disabled as he is… They wouldn’t let their cherished daughters do it,” Older Mr. Hart explained.
Housekeeper Gregory sighed, choosing not to say more.
Fortunately, things were proceeding according to Older Mr. Hart’s plan.
Sofia worked at the hospital today, with a constant stream of patients.
She barely had time to eat a sandwich at noon and didn’t even take a sip of water.
She spent her lunch break researching Nathaniel’s treatment plan.
Finally, at the end of her shift, after sending off the last patient, Sofia hurriedly took off her white coat and dashed out of the hospital.
As she was about to call a cab on her phone, a car, stopped in front of her.
The driver’s window rolled down, and a man leaned out, asking Sofia, “Doctor Schneider, where are you headed? Let me give you a ride.”
Dr Ramirez. My car will be here soon,” Sofia replied.

She gestured with her phone, indicating her ride would arrive shortly.
But Louie Ramirez seemed persisted in offering her a ride today.
“Dr Schneider, we’re colleagues. You don’t have to keep pushing me away like this. I’m just offering you a lift, it won’t hurt.”
Sofia didn’t want any further entanglement with him and was increasingly annoyed.
“I really am in a hurry. Please, I’ll go on my own. Goodbye.”
Coincidentally, her ride arrived just then.
Without looking back, Sofia got into the car and gave the driver an address, focusing on her phone screen.
The driver kept an eye on the road conditions and soon noticed a black Land Rover following them.
He asked, “Miss, did you have a fight with your boyfriend? That car behind us has been following us.”
When he parked earlier, he saw them talking, assuming they were familiar. And they both good looks, so he naturally thought they were a couple.
Sofia turned to see Louie’s car following them.
She tapped a few times on her phone and sent a message before telling the driver, “He’s not my boyfriend, just a colleague. Maybe he’s going the same way.”
The driver believed Sofia and spoke calmly, without any anger. It really didn’t seem like they were arguing like a couple.

Realizing he had overthought things, he didn’t say anything more.
However, as they turned a corner, they heard a loud crash from behind.

Instinctively, the driver glanced in the rearview mirror and saw the Land Rover had collided with a pickup truck.
The pickup’s tires were still spinning, seemingly with failed brakes, and its body was dented from the collision with the Range Rover. It looked bad.
Sofia heard the noise from behind but showed no curiosity, focused solely on her phone screen.
The driver had wanted to chat with her and perhaps comment on the sorry state of the pickup.
But Sofia was clearly a phone addict, engrossed in her screen.
The driver shook his head, filled with disdain.
Sofia looked at the message on her phone, a conversation with someone named Sylvia Grant.
Sofia stopped him.
