Chapter 6 She Did Not Want Nathaniel to Die
At one in the morning, Sofia once again sneaked into Nathaniel’s room. under cover of darkness.
Earlier, she had started assembling the instruments in her own room according to the blueprints, but she ran into a problem at one stage.
Was
There a particular circuit where, despite being correctly assembled as per last night’s notes, the data from one part of it seemed entirely superfluous–whether connected or not, it made no difference.
This made Sofia question if she had remembered wrong or misplaced the circuit.
However, her photographic memory made such mistakes impossible.
Determined to understand the issue, Sofia quietly returned to Nathaniel’s room.
Just like the previous night, Nathaniel was sleeping soundly. She could even hear his deep, steady breathing, which indicated he was in a deep sleep, possibly even dreaming.
Feeling bolder tonight, Sofia confirmed Nathaniel’s deep slumber and approached his bedside directly.
She glanced at his sleeping face, pursed her lips, and muttered softly, “Such a handsome face, but why does your mouth have to be so… Even thought about bullying me? You must be dreaming!”
With that, Sofia even raised a small fist and lightly shook it over Nathaniel’s forehead, whispering, “You should consider yourself lucky

to be ill right now. I’m so kind–hearted, otherwise, I’d punch you.”
The image of Nathaniel begging for mercy after being beaten by her made Sofia burst into a giggle.
She quickly covered her mouth, eyeing Nathaniel cautiously to ensure he hadn’t heard, before silently stepping back a few paces.
That was close. She almost got carried away.
“Oh Sofia, don’t forget what the mentor instructed,” she chided herself, pinching her fingers and adjusting her breathing before cautiously moving towards the instruments.
This time, Sofia didn’t just observe the instruments with her eyes, she directly pressed a button.
This action shocked Kyler and the others watching on the screen.
Everyone stood up abruptly, their eyes fixed on Sofia. Someone even rushed to the door, hand on the doorknob.
If Kyler hadn’t signaled them to stop, they would have already stormed in to subdue Sofia.
“If it weren’t for Kyler’s timely gesture, they would have rushed in and subdued Sofia already.
Someone couldn’t contain their anxiety. “Kyler, if we don’t act now, Mr. Hart…”
Kyler shot the person a stern look, refocusing his gaze on the screen to watch Sofia’s next move.
These instruments were equipped with alarm systems; any

abnormality in Nathaniel’s body would trigger an immediate alert.
Kyler hesitated, wondering if they would still have time to rush in after the alarm went off.
However, Mr. Hart had instructed them earlier not to act unless instructed by him, regardless of what Sofia did.
Kyler knew Mr. Hart wanted to catch Sofia in the act, and he couldn’t risk disobeying his master’s orders and ruining his plans.
So, all they could do now was wait.
Unexpectedly, the anticipated alarm did not sound, and Sofia did nothing more than press a button twice before leaving Nathaniel’s
room.
When Nathaniel opened his eyes and stared at the spot where Sofia had, stood, he asked, “Did you see what she did clearly?”
Kyler immediately replied, “Mr. Hart, She pressed a button twice.”
“Come over here,” Nathaniel said.
In three seconds, Kyler was already in Nathaniel’s room.
Nathaniel instructed him to press the button Sofia had pressed again but found nothing unusual.
Kyler asked, “Mr. Hart, should I just bring her in and ask her what she’s up to?”
As soon as he finished speaking, Kyler saw Nathaniel looking at him like he was an idiot.

Nathaniel replied, “Then why don’t you just ask her when she plans to kill me?”
Kyler immediately lowered his head, realizing he had made the dumbest suggestion possible.
If Sofia really intended to harm Nathaniel, any attempt to do so would likely be detected beforehand.
“I’m sorry, Mr. Hart. I misspoke,” Kyler said.
“Get out,” Nathaniel said.
Kyler immediately left the room, patting his forehead as he berated himself for saying the wrong thing.
Meanwhile, back in her room, Sofia reexamined the miniaturized instruments.
As it turned out, the circuit in Nathaniel’s device that she had doubted was indeed correct.
However, this was the problem itself,
For such sophisticated instruments to have a completely useless button was nonsensical.
After dismantling the circuit again, Sofia studied it carefully and concluded that someone had tampered with the device.
Someone wanted Nathaniel to remain permanently paralyzed in bed.
Furthermore, due to the malfunction in one of the therapeutic functions of Nathaniel’s treatment device, its effectiveness was greatly reduced, or worse, it could directly cause Nathaniel to suffer chronic

deterioration and eventual death.

Sofia frowned. Although this possibility was still speculative, she had a strong intuition that she was 90% correct.
So, who could it be?
Who wasn’t satisfied with Nathaniel being paralyzed and wanted him dead in such a discreet manner?
Suddenly, a surge of determination rose within Sofia.
She did not want Nathaniel to die.
Perhaps it was because of the warmth and preciousness that Older Mr. Hart had shown her, making her unable to bear seeing such an old man suffer that kind of pain.
For the first time, Sofia felt strongly compelled to break her promise to her mentor and work so fervently to heal someone.
With this thought, Sofia didn’t hesitate any longer.
She took out an old medical book from her worn luggage and quickly flipped through its yellowed pages, reviewing its contents.
She recalled her mentor had once successfully cured someone in a similar situation to Nathaniel’s.
According to what she knew, that person had excellent physical condition after recovery, even indulging in extreme sports until his late sixties or seventies.
Although Nathaniel’s condition was more severe than that person’s, Sofia still believed there was a chance for him to recover.

But first, she needed to figure out the tampered circuit and how to connect it correctly.

Having found the treatment methods in the medical book given by her mentor, Sofia began to study the device again.
Finally, as the daylight broke, Sofia successfully tested the correct circuit connection on herself.
However, she got a strong electric shock on her arm, causing her left arm to go numb and lose all feeling. The skin where the electrode was attached turned bruised and purple.
