Benedict rushed into the operating theater and was surprised to see Yvonne alone, holding a scalpel. “You’re a nurse. Are you qualified to perform surgery?”
Yvonne did not answer him. Instead, she looked at him proudly, seeking praise. “Benedict, I took care of a huge problem for you. Shouldn’t you thank me?”
“What problem?”
Yvonne pointed at me and grinned. “This woman wanted to seduce you. Don’t worry. I’ve dealt with her.”
Benedict was stunned for a moment. “What?”
Yvonne hooked her arm through his and said daintily, “You’re not angry, are you? I know she was your first love, but I’m your girlfriend now. You can’t take her side. Otherwise, I’ll ignore you for the rest of my life.”
Benedict’s
expression was cold. I’ve already told you you’re my first girlfriend,” he said impatiently. “Why won’t you believe me?”
Yvonne pouted. “You always lie to me. No man has his first relationship at 30 years old.”
Benedict spoke the truth. I had always been strict with him. Plus, he was disciplined, so ever since he decided to become a doctor, he spent all his time studying, sparing no time for romance.
If he had, then he wouldn’t be deceived by Yvonne’s two–faced nature.
When Benedict fell silent, Yvonne began to lose her temper. “You’re still lying to me! I saw the illegitimate son your ex gave birth to How can you lie to me, you asshole?*
Benedict’s pupils contracted. He asked again uncertainly, “What? Illegitimate son?”
I finally managed to gather enough strength to raise my hand to get Benedict’s attention, but Yvonne noticed
me first.
She stepped up to the table and slapped me several times right in front of Benedict. “You bitch! This is all because of you! You ruined our relationship”
Benedict stopped Yvonne. “Stop this,” he said, sounding angry. “I’ve already told you that you’re my first girlfriend. I don’t have an illegitimate child. If you hurt her too badly, the hospital will get into trouble!”
He leaned over to check my injuries Suddenly, his expression changed.
“Did you cause all these injuries?” he asked.
Yvonne threw a disdainful glance at me. “She deserved it!” Then, she hugged Benedict’s arm again. “You’ll settle this for me, won’t you? I know you love me. If I end up in prison, you’ll be sad, too, right?
We can just say that this woman came in with these injuries. We’ll just have to pay her family some money as compensation Bitches like her just want money, after all.”
Yvonne kept saying more and more outrageous things, not noticing that Benedict’s expression was darkening with every word.
I had raised him to be a law–abiding and just person.

Just as I expected, he cut Yvonne off, “Tell me the truth. Did you or did you not cause these injuries on this person?”
Yvonne paused. The next second, her eyes filled with tears. “Benedict, I’m your girlfriend. We’ve been together for a year. How could you say that to me…”
Benedict was getting frustrated, but he kept his calm. “Just go. I need to check on her injuries.”
Unhappily, Yvonne turned to head out:
Just then, Benedict called her back.
Yvonne turned joyously, but Benedict just said, “Get Dr. Jansen in here. The patient is bleeding too much. Her injuries look very severe.”
My face had been cut multiple times. So, he couldn’t recognize me.
I also had a lot of wounds all over my entire body, so Benedict still didn’t know that the poor patient lying on the operation table was his own mother.
Yvonne left in a huff.
Another doctor entered.
As the doctor–Dr. Jansen–cleaned my wounds, he defended Yvonne, saying, “Yvonne went too far this time, but she’s still young. She acted out so rashly because she was scared of losing you.”
Benedict did not say anything.
Just then, he saw my face after the blood had been cleaned. He began trembling with anger.
