Chapter 77: Mysterious Confidence
“Ah, you’re here! Come in, come in. Have a seat,” Adam greeted Julian and Layla with a smile as they arrived.
However, he couldn’t quite figure it out. This was supposed to be a guys‘ night. Why bring a girl?
He noticed none of the other guys had brought their girlfriends, but of course, he couldn’t say anything in front of Layla. That would be too awkward.
Adam kept his doubts to himself until Layla went to the bathroom. Then, he couldn’t hold back any longer.
“What’s going on with you? Didn’t you say the other day that you broke up with her? So why bring her here now? Have you gotten back together? And what about Chloe? Weren’t you going after Chloe?” Adam was genuinely confused. He couldn’t understand what Julian was thinking.
If Julian wasn’t interested in Chloe anymore, then what was the whole falling–out with Daniel about? And if he still liked Chloe, why hadn’t he broken up with Layla? His actions were just confusing–was he trying to have it both ways? The problem was that Chloe would never stand for that.
Julian, who had been drinking since they arrived and barely spoken to anyone, looked a little dazed when he heard the question.
“She’s still really young, and something like this would be a huge blow to her. If I break up with her now, she probably won’t be able to handle it,” Julian explained.
Adam couldn’t help but find this reasoning odd. Layla was in her twenties–when was she supposed to stop being “too young“? He felt like Julian was confused.
Without directly commenting on it, Adam scratched his nose and asked, “Alright, but if Layla can’t handle it, what about Chloe? Are you planning to give up on getting her back?”
If that were the case, Daniel would probably be thrilled. He’d been pursuing Chloe hard lately. Word had it that he was constantly around wherever Chloe went, always chasing after her.
Julian’s eyes sharpened a bit, and he snapped out of his haze. “Of course I’m not giving up!” he said, sounding a bit annoyed.
He was determined to win Chloe back. If he didn’t, it would just make things easier for Daniel. Adam remained silent for a while, beginning to understand what was going on. He looked at Julian in disbelief. “So, am I right to assume that you’re trying to juggle both relationships?”
“No, it’s just that now isn’t the right time to break up with her. I’ll make it up to Chloe later,” Julian said breaking up with Layla at the moment

Adam was at a loss for words, unsure how to respond. He wanted to advise Julian, but the words got stuck in his throat. They’d known each other for so long, and he knew both Julian and Chloe well.
Julian’s plan to make things up later wasn’t going to work. Chloe wasn’t the kind of person who would give him another chance, and by the time Julian sorted everything out, Chloe would probably have moved on to someone else.
Now was the perfect time to make things right with her, but Julian wasn’t taking it, Adam didn’t say all of

this out loud because he could sense Julian’s mysterious confidence.
Since Julian was so sure of himself, there was no point in arguing. Adam decided not to be the bad guy and risk making himself unpopular by saying too much.
The group hung out together until the early hours of the morning, finally wrapping up their night.
Adam was quite drunk but still had some sense left. He paid the bill and asked the staff to help him get
home.
Among the group, William had drunk the least. He watched as his friends left, tipsy and stumbling; and silently pulled out a cigarette to clear his head. Even though he hadn’t drunk much, the smell of alcohol clung to him.
There was a hotel nearby that his family owned, and he had a room there. He planned to head straight there to sleep.
In the end, only Julian and Layla remained, standing by the roadside, waiting for a ride service to pick them up.
Layla hadn’t drunk much. Every time she tried to drink, Julian would take her glass away. Despite that, Julian hadn’t exactly been holding back and had drunk quite a bit himself, though he could handle it well and didn’t seem too drunk.
Cautiously, Layla reached out to take Julian’s arm, testing the waters. She wasn’t sure if he’d pull away, but when he didn’t, and she managed to hold onto him, she breathed a sigh of relief. It seemed like he wasn’t trying to keep his distance anymore.
She looked up at him hesitantly and suggested, “It’s really late. How about we head back to the villa together and rest?”
Her meaning was clear, and Julian understood it immediately. He stayed silent for a moment, his gaze on Layla a little heavy. “The villa is too far from your school. You might not make it in time tomorrow morning. I’ll drop you off at school instead,” he said.
Disappointment flickered in Layla’s eyes. She had hoped this would be a chance to get closer to Julian? But since he’d said that, there was nothing more she could do. She forced a smile. “Alright, that’s fine.”
Her obedient and understanding attitude made Julian feel more at ease. He hated when people didn’t listen to him, but fortunately, Layla wasn’t one of those people.
When the driver arrived, Julian dropped Layla off at her school first. After watching her enter the dormitory, he headed back to his villa.
“Wait a minute. Drive the car back. I’ll walk around for a bit,” Julian said suddenly after the
