Chapter 70: Insisting on Pursuing
Chloe glanced at the time. She didn’t feel there was much left to say between her and Daniel. They only needed to clarify some things, and then she could move on with her day. She didn’t plan to waste any time here, so whether or not they had coffee didn’t matter to her.
“Let’s skip the coffee. I came here to clear things up with you, and after that, I have other things to do. I only freed up a bit of time for this today,” she said.
Although Chloe had given the excuse that she had other matters to attend to, Daniel understood that this was just a reason to avoid spending more time with him. She didn’t want to be around him any longer or continue their conversation.
Daniel knew this but chose not to mention it.
“I know what you’re thinking… but never mind. That’s not the important part. Since we’re here to settle things, let’s get straight to it. Every word I’ve said to you before was sincere, and my feelings for you are genuine,” Daniel sighed. He wanted to explain more, but seeing Chloe’s resistance, he realized it wouldn’t help.
So, instead of talking around the subject, he decided to be upfront about his intentions. Maybe, just maybe, his honesty would make Chloe see him in a different light.
However, Chloe’s expression didn’t change at all after hearing him. In fact, a hint of irritation flickered in her eyes. Daniel had seen this look before–mainly on Julian’s face–but now it was appearing on Chloe’s.
“Let me make myself clear once again. I don’t have any feelings for you. I don’t like you, so even if you continue pursuing me, nothing will come of it. I suggest you spend your time on something more meaningful instead of wasting it on me.”
Daniel locked his gaze on Chloe. “I know you don’t like me, but so what? I want to pursue you, and what can you do about it? As for doing something more meaningful, what exactly do you mean? I don’t believe there’s anything more meaningful than pursuing someone I care about. Is that wrong? Is there anything in
this world that isn’t?”
Both of them knew certain things could be forced, but others could not. For Daniel, liking Chloe was one of those things he couldn’t let go of, even if it meant facing rejection.
He needed to try, no matter what the outcome might be. Daniel was determined to get the result he wanted, no matter the cost.
“I’ve always been a persistent person. Once I decide on something, I go after it with everything I have,” Daniel said, making it clear that he wouldn’t give up easily.
In other words, Daniel was saying he was determined to get what he wanted, no matter how hard it might be. After all, Chloe hadn’t ended up with Julian because she liked him so much–it was Julian’s persistence that eventually wore her down.
If Julian could win her over through sheer determination, then so could Daniel.
Some people may say modest words, but their expressions and actions reveal their confidence. Right now, Chloe could see that confidence on Daniel’s face. He truly believed he could win her over.
Chloe frowned, about to say something, when someone suddenly interrupted her.
“Chloe?” Adam’s voice called out.
Adam hadn’t expected to run into Chloe here, and he certainly hadn’t expected to find her sitting with Daniel. After what happened last time, Adam realized he had been set up by Daniel, but seeing them

together now made things even more confusing.

And the fact that they were meeting in a café so close to the school? What exactly was going on between
them?
Adam didn’t dare think too deeply about it. He was afraid that his worst suspicions might be true. If it
he supposed to pretend not to
turned out to be what he feared, how was he supposed to react, Suspicions might be true. If it
know?
His mind was in chaos as he hurried over to them, feeling that he shouldn’t be here at all.
Had Chloe not been sitting there, and it was only Daniel, Adam would have cursed Daniel out for going after his best friend’s girl. But now, with Chloe involved, things were more complicated.
Although this situation was unexpected, Adam reasoned that it wasn’t entirely out of the realm of possibility. People in their circle had done plenty of rebellious things, and going after a friend’s ex- girlfriend wasn’t even the worst of it. It seemed like just another line someone could cross.
Adam had seen Daniel do reckless things before, so this wasn’t the most shocking. What he really wanted to know was Chloe’s attitude. Was she okay with Daniel pursuing her, or not?
If Chloe agreed to this, what would that mean for Daniel and Julian’s friendship? Would she still occasionally see Julian?
Even though this didn’t directly involve Adam, the thought of these possibilities gave him a headache. He felt like a middleman in a situation where no matter what he did, someone would end up holding it against him.
Adam’s eyes darted between Chloe and Daniel, as if searching for the right words, but he couldn’t figure out what to say.
Truthfully, seeing Adam here left Chloe feeling a bit conflicted too. She had sometimes wondered if Adam knew about Daniel’s intentions. But seeing his reaction now, it was clear he hadn’t known a thing.
Originally, she had come here to make her stance clear to Daniel and put an end to this. But now that Adam was here, there didn’t seem to be much point in continuing the conversation.
“Since you two have run into each other, you might as well deal with your business first. I’ll leave,” Chloe said, standing up and heading for the door.
Now it was just Adam and Daniel. Adam sat across from Daniel, frowning as he asked, “You’re not seriously going after Chloe, are you?”
