Chapter 70
Lily tossed and turned in her bed, thinking of everything that has happened the past few days, and she couldn’t help but feel scared at how fast everything changes, but beneath all that fear was excitement.
After Angelica poured out her heart to her two nights ago, she had gone into a sober reflection, and had realized how much that could have been changed in her life if she wasn’t so scared of life, and if she made up her mind quicker.
Angelica was set to leave a day after the launch party, and they’ve both been busy getting her things together. She on the other hand, has been on the edge of losing her mind, thanks to her indecisiveness. Her decision to start a whole new life has been shaken up, thanks to her introduction to her new family… Which she was yet to tell Angelica about.
“You’re a shitty friend, Lily,” she mumbled as she forced herself up from the bed to go and freshen up. She had a doctor’s appointment today.
When she was done, she stood by the mirror and stared at her stomach. She was 4 weeks in, and It was still barely noticeable, but she could see a tiny bump now, and it made her heart swirl with fullness and warmth. A smile played on her lips, and she rubbed her stomach gently. “I can’t wait to meet you,” she whispered, her voice coarse from the unshed tears, “I’d love you and protect you with everything I have.” She reached for her phone and took a few pictures, before she left.
Her visit to the doctor was a quick and simple one. She had come for a confirmation of the pregnancy, and a physical examination, and surprisingly they all went very smoothly.
The biggest smile ever tugged on her lips as she walked out of the doctor’s office after getting her confirmation. Everything was okay with her, and she had no reason to worry.
She was walking out of the hospital, her face fixed on her phone as she tried to reach Angelica, when she bumped into someone. “Oh, I’m so sorry. I’m so sorry,” she chanted as she regained her footing, “are you… Charlotte?” she whisper–yelled when she finally saw she face of the person she bumped into.
A malicious grin instantly curled up in Charlotte’s face, and she wrapped her hand around her stomach defensively. “Why can’t you watch where you are going?” She asked at the top of her voice, “I have a feeling you did this on purpose because out of all the people you could have bumped into, you chose to bump into me and my baby!”
Her last words rang in Lily’s face as though an alarm went off, and she stood frozen, her eyes wide.
Charlotte raised a brow and smiled smugly at her, “what? Cat cut your tongue? Defeated that what you couldn’t get for 5 years is what I have now?”
“It’s for Asher?”
“Who else would it be for? Satan?” She tutted and placed a compensating hand on Lily’s shoulder, “I know that must hurt, I felt the same way when I heard you married my husband.
Blood roared in Lily’s ears, and she felt like pushing Charlotte to the floor and hit her face against it repeatedly till she was completely battered, but instead she called her hand into a fist and shrugged off her hand. “Make sure you’re available on my wedding day, Lily. It’s your birthday so you might as well, celebrate it there, there’ll be food. Looks like you need it. I’ll be on my way now.”
“Does Asher know?” She asked before Charlotte could walk away.
“It’s going to be my wedding present to him. I’m sure he’d be overjoyed.”
Her knees gave away and buckled, unable to hold her weight anymore, and she fell to the floor. People instantly averted their attention to her, and despite being overly aware of it, she couldn’t bring herself to move a muscle.
The second condition he gave her before he signed the divorce papers suddenly crossed her mind, and she scoffed. “Over my dead body,” she mumbled, wiping away the tears that managed to trickle down her cheeks. She tried to make excuses for his actions, for the stupid marriage and the hastiness of it, but there was absolutely no excuse for not just sleeping with her, but knocking her up.
Finally, she managed to get herself to stand up, and she dragged her feet to her car. She quickly logged onto the flight website and booked a one way ticket to Paris. She was leaving on the day of the wedding, it would be her birthday present to herself.
She swallowed the tears that were trying to escape, turned on her ignition and drove away. She didn’t want to go back home in this situation, and worry Angelica, so she decided to drive around for a while, but she got a text from her mum asking her to meet at Elevé.
“Perfect,” she mumbled as she changed her location. Finally, she can tell her mum the truth she asked for at the dinner, and to let her know she was leaving for Paris.
“Hey mum…” She greeted as she walked up to her, kissing her cheeks, “hey, da- Lincoln.”
Lincoln smiled warmly at her, and stood up for a hug, which Lily happily leaned into. “You don’t have to try to call me dad, Lily. Lincoln is fine.”
She shot an appreciative smile at him and took a seat opposite them. “Mum, I just noticed both our names start with ‘Li, nice move.”

Elle smiled and Lincoln reached for her hand under the table. She had purposely given Lily her name with that in mind, just to make sure she had even the tiniest connection with her real dad.
The smile on Elle’s face faded when she took a closer look at Lily’s face, “Lily.. are you okay?”
She immediately chuckled nervously and nodded. “Of course I am, I’m okay.” She took the glass of water on the table and took a sip, avoiding their gazes.
Elle wanted to press further, but Lincoln gave her hand a little squeeze. It was better not to push it if she didn’t want to tell them.
“So…” She cleared her throat and smiled, “what’s the occasion? Did you two miss your little girl a little too much?”
They both laughed, and Lincoln shook his head. Not even one bit,” Elle slapped his arm, and Lily smiled heartily. Who knew her mum could be this playful?
“We did miss you, Lily, but…” She glanced nervously at Lincoln, “we always called you to share an important news with you.”
“oh…” She looked at the both of them, trying to figure out what they could possibly want to share. “Tell me.”
“Well, you know how… How we both decided to pursue a relationship again?” Lily nodded, ” well…”
“We’ve decided to take it a step further and tie the knot, 2 weeks after your sister’s wedding.
