Chapter 65
Lily was bent over the toilet, puking out her guts. Recollecting the story had sent a wave of nausea over her, and now she has thrown up everything she’s had to eat today. Everything was so fucking unbelievable.
The door creaked open, revealing Angelica, who rushed into the room, her eyes wide with excitement, but that fizzled when she saw Lily bent over and puking. She quickly dumped everything she was holding on the floor and rushed over to Lily. She held her hair and patted her back, till she was done throwing up.
“I’m so sorry you had to come home to this,” Lily apologized as Angelica led her back to the bed, but she immediately shook it off.
“There’s no reason for you to apologize, Lily. You’re a pregnant woman, it happens.”
She smiled warmly as Angelica helped her lie on the bed, “are you sure you feel better now?” Lily wanted to shake her head and tell her no, she doesn’t. She feels another nausea coming, and her head was literally spinning because she was still trying to process the life story she heard from her mum, but instead, she smiled even wider and nodded.
“I do, the real question should be why are you back so early? I thought you had an appointment.
Angelica nodded. She made herself comfortable on the floor and dragged her stuff closer to her, “I did,”
Lily arched a brow at the sudden change in her tone. “Did anything happen? Did he cancel?” She shook her head and Lily frowned, thinking of other possible reasons that brought her back so early. “What’s wrong, Angelica, talk to me.”
She sighed and brought out an envelope from her bag. “My test results came out today.” Lily’s heart instantly lurched to her stomach, and she sat up on the bed.
“And? Have you opened? What did…” She paused and shook her head,” how are you?”
Angelica thinned her lips and stared at the envelope before her, before she breathed out a laugh. “I’m good, I feel so good.”
“I’m so sor… What?”
“I said I feel good, Lily,” her voice cracked at her attempt to hold back a sob, “I never had cancer, Lily. I’m clean, it was…” Before she could even finish her sentence, Lily wrapped her hand around her and pulled her into a hug.
“Oh my God! Oh my God! Angelica!” She chanted like a prayer, hugging her even tighter and Angelica sobbed into her shoulders. Soon enough, they were both crying.
“I can’t believe this,” Lily pulled out from the hug, wiping her eyes. “I actually can’t believe this. What? How? Tell me everything.”
Angelica sniffled, and threw her head back to flick away the tears. “It was an error, my file got switched with another patient that shares the same name with me.” Lily’s mouth dropped open, and Angelica chuckled. “I know, it’s crazy. When we went for a checkup the last time, the doctor was surprised that I wasn’t experiencing severe symptoms already, given the predicated stage, and that’s why he asked me to retake the medical examination. I’m free, Lily! I’m so free!”
Both of them pulled themselves into a hug again, this time they were laughing despite the tears trickling down their faces.
“We should be celebrating this, Angelica! This is big, this is so freaking big!”
“I know!”
*I would say let’s go to the bar, but I’ve got a little fetus in here, but we need to celebrate!”
Angelica stood to her feet immediately and wagged her fingers in Lily’s face.” We don’t need a bar to celebrate, woman. A takeout order, binge eating, and watching our favorite shows, are ways we could also celebrate. We are girls, we are gonna have girl fun!”
Lily squealed and clapped her hands excitedly, she had no idea what ‘girl fun‘ is considering she had 0 friends growing up, but she was most definitely excited for it.
“I’m going to get everything started, you should rest up till everything is ready, okay?”
“No, this is your party, I should help.”
“You’re a pregnant woman, relax, that’s your way of helping”
“But..”
“No buts, I’m going to get started now. Stay right here.”
“Wait…” Angelica stopped, “what about Lancaster? Have you told him?”

Chapter 65
She shook her head, all traces of a smile vanished from her face. “Not yet, I… Let’s not talk about this now, okay? I’m going to get started now.” Lily. pursed her lips, and she thought of poking more to find out what was wrong, but she understood quite well about not wanting to share certain things, so she just smiled and nodded. Angelica instantly returned the smile, before she dashed out of the room.
Once the door shut behind Angelica, and Lily laid back down on the bed, the gloomy feeling that Angelica’s news momentarily distracted her from came back in full force. She picked up her phone and scrolled to her mother’s contact. She wanted to call her and ask her to tell the story all over again, just so she could be sure this was all happening. She wanted to ask her if she was really going to divorce Nicolas, was the family she knew growing up really going to shatter?
She sighed and blinked away the tears. This was tough.
Just as she was about to turn off the phone and focus on cheering herself up before she rained on Angelica’s parade, two messages popped in. One was from the strange number her mum called her with earlier that day, and it was an invitation to a family dinner in 2 days. She stared at it long and hard, before she swiped away.
The other was from Charlotte. She stared hard at the message, pondering on opening it. Finally, with a heavy sigh, she opened the message.
Her heart dropped, and she instantly regretted her decision the second she read the message.
It wasn’t enough that she was getting married to her ex–husband, but their wedding was on her birthday as well.
