Chapter 59
“Christopher…” Angelica breathed out like a prayer once she caught sight of him, her heart pounding erratically. As always he looked breathtaking. his tall frame leaned against the rusty swing set, both hands tucked into his pocket. She could tell from the tenseness of his frame that he had seen her, and without meaning to, she smiled even though tears had formed in her eyes.
Christopher finally pushed himself off the swing set, and took cautious calculated steps towards her and into the light reflecting from the street lamp.
Their breaths hitched as they finally got a clearer view of each other’s faces. Over the course of the years, what the other looked like had slowly blurred in their minds, but now that they could finally see the other, the urge to jump on each other’s bones was overwhelming.
Christopher clenched and unclenched his fists, and Angelica wrapped her arms around herself and took a step back almost instantly. “There are a number of things I believed I wouldn’t see in my lifetime, you stepping out in the light where you could be seen with me is one of them”
“As always, you know how to hit where it hurts the most, Angiolina (Ali–nych–lee–nah”
She breathed out a laugh and shrugged, “I spent a good chunk of my life with you. It would be a shame if I didn’t know how to, considering it’s your
expertise
Christopher opened his mouth, and instead of words to come out, air instead passed out and he palmed his face. “Did you text me all these while and call me out just to fight”
“What else were you expecting! An expensive dinner date, flowers? A performance? Deal with it Christopher.
A prolonged silence passed between the both of them before he heaved a breath and walked up to her, Angelica stared at him with hard eyes, ready to defend herself against whatever he was about to stay. She was however swept off her feet when instead of saying anything, he pulled her into a hug and buried his face in the hollow of her neck. I’ve missed you, Angiolina. So much”
Her eyes slowly widened at his actions and the admission. Tears slowly welled up in her eyes, and for a few seconds, she remained frozen in the hug, confused on what to do,
“Hold me… Please.” The tears finally let loose in her eyes and she wrapped her arms around him, sobbing
Christopher’s lips tugged up in a smile, and he broke the hug for a brief second just so he could place her head on his chest and comfort her. Once he did that Angelica frit all the walls and frigned confidence she locked herself in, came crashing down, and for the first time since her diagnosis, she cried for her situation.
“You’ve got ice cream on your nose, Angiolina” He reached out and swiped the ice cream from her nose, and Angelica smiled, expecting him to fing it away from his finger, but instead he held her eyes, dipped the Enger in his mouth and gave it a slow but thorough lick. Her lips parted, and her eyes widened slightly as she watched him. Once he took his finger out of his mouth, she swallowed and instantly looked away.
Christopher smirked, and sat at the other swing set. After her mini breakdown session, he had gotten her favourite ice cream flavor in a bid to cheer her up, and he could tell she was in a better mood than before.
“So..” He started and Angelica hummed in response, refusing to look at him after the stunt he pulled. He breathed out a laugh at her obvious tactics, then gently placed his index finger on her jaw and gently raised her face to meet his eyes, “are you going to tell me why you suddenly texted me, and asked to see me after 3 years… Especially after what happened the last time.
Angelica’s heart dropped to her stomach at the mention of what happened the last time, and she immediately looked away from him. “Do you have a thing for ruining the mood, Christopher?” She dumped the remainder of her ice cream on the ground and abruptly stood up. Texting you and asking to see you was definitely a wrong move. How could I have forgotten so soon what you did?” She breathed out a humorless laugh. “I’m sorry for calling you out, and thank you for coming out. I’ll be on my way now.
She didn’t wait for his response and instantly marched out. The sickness must have dulled her senses, it must have jarred and messed up her memories for her to actually forget what he did. The reason she was able to go 3 years without texting him even once. She felt tears welling up in her eyes again and she harshly wiped it away. How pathetic.
Just as she was about to step out completely from the playground, she felt his hand enclasp around her wrist and pull her back. “Angelica,” his voice was stern and steady, and all forms of protest left her body, it’s been 3 years”
“What’s your point?”
“Isn’t that enough punishment Enough time away from me to punish me? Enough time to forget.
She scoffed and forced her hand out of his hold. “To forget the fact that you cheated on me? Would you forget

His eyes widened at her words and he shook his head. “Che–cheat? I didn’t cheat on you.

She arched a brow and scoffed. “A cheat and a liar? Two things I never thought you were, Christopher. I saw you two, you and the woman you claimed your parents were forcing down your throat. How could you deny it?”
Nothing happened between Nora and I. Angiolina. You have to believe me. All these while I thought you left because the pressure was too much. I…” He took a deep breath and pinched the spot in between his brows.” I didn’t cheat on you, Cara Mia”
“To think I wanted to spend my last days with a fucking liar and a cheat,” she regretted the words the second they left her lips.
Christopher’s hands dropped to his side, and he instantly turned pale like a ghost. “Did did you just say, last days?”
