Asher brought out his phone and scrolled to his call log, then showed it to Lily. “I called you” Lily’s mouth instantly formed an O shape and she quickly whipped out her phone to check, “you picked up.” Her fingers that were hovering over her screen immediately froze, and her eyes widened as she got an inkling of what he could be trying to say.

“That’s why you were arting up? That’s why you served me divorce papers ilie second you realized she was back?” The breathed out a laugh and looked down momentarily. It all fucking makes sense now,” he whipped his head back up and stared at Lily who had a resigned look on her face. her shoulders shumped in defeat, “why didn’t you tell me? You should have let me krim Lily, you are my wife, I would walk to the ends of the earth and back for you”
Tears welled up in Lily’s eyes, she inhaled sharply and shook her head. “How was I supposed to know that? You…”
“And after that?” He immediately cut in, knowing the excuse she was about to bring up. “After the time in Paris, the time back here? What about all that Lasked again and again. Lily, You never told me. Why?”

Silence stretched out between them after Lily’s confession, while Asher stared at her. It wasn’t just the pressure to leave him that was the problem, it was the very possibility that for years she had gone through abuse in that household and she never said a word. Something suddenly seemed to click on his mind when he remembered what her father said about being here yesterday and his eyes instantly darkened.
The sound of the chair scraping against the floor as Asher stood up broke the silence. Lily immediately took calculated steps backward once she noticed the look on his face as he walked over to her.
Once he closed the gap between them enough, he wrapped his arm around her waist and pulled her to himself and a little gasp escaped Lily’s lips. “Excuse me for this,” he said and with his hand, he wiped off a chunk of make up from her face.
His eyes darkened even further and he clenched his jaw so hard, his teeth felt like they were sinking into his gums, once a part of her face became clear to him and just like he suspected, it was covered in bruises. Lily gulped at the look on his face and tried to wiggle out of his hold, but he held onto her firmly.
“Did he do this too?” He asked, trying to clean more of the makeup but couldn’t because Lily was struggling to wiggle out of his bold.
I don’t know what you’re talking about!”
““Don’t lie to me!” She immediately stopped struggling and stared at him, panting. “He did this to you and he did it you in my own house.”
“You’re not sure of that”
He arched a brow and smiled halfheartedly, “oh I am Marie informed me of their presence here yesterday, and the driver told me he drove you straight home. So this could have only happened in my house. Mr Alfred Morgan hit my wife in my own house.”

He breathed out a laugh at her words, and caressed her jaw gently with his index finger before he slowly let go of her and created some distance between thein. “Fine, I will sign the divorce paper” he said and Lily felt her heart break into a million pieces, “but only on 2 conditions.”
She swallowed and cleared her throat to keep the burn she felt in it from affecting her voice. “What are your conditions?” Her voice cracked at the end nonetheless, and Allier balled his hands into a fist, all he wanted to do in that moment was drive to the Morgan house and beat the asshole to a plump, last the look in Lily’s eyes kept him rooted here. He treated her less than a human being, and yet she still fucking cared for him.

Lily drew a shaky breath and nodded slowly. She had no plans of going there anyway. “And what is your second condition”
“No matter what happens in the time that we will be away, you must give me a second chance to try and win you back, and to make up for how I’ve treated you” Her heart skipped a beat at his words and she instinctively wrapped her hand around her stomach as if to shield herself from him. “You might not believe me Lily, but I’ve always cared about you. I’ve always had a sense of responsibility over you, and I’ve only genuinely wanted you to be free and happy. Yes, it took you leaving me for me to show it in a way you’d understand but the feelings have always, always been there Lily, and currently, it’s more than a sense of responsibility towards you. So please, keep that option open for me”
A teardrop trickled down her cheek when Asher was done speaking, and she slowly bobbed her head, sniffling and he immediately pulled her into a hug
“Ina son ka” he whispered, and even though Lily didn’t understand its meaning, it made her cry even more.
