Chapter 46
Lily sat impatiently at the dining table, waiting for Asher to leave for work. Her eyes went to the clock on the wall and her forehead creased as her brows knitted together, it was quarter past 8, on any normal day he should have left 30 minutes ago, yet there was no sign of him.
“Have you called Mr Alland for breakfast today?” She asked the help who was vacuuming the house, and he turned to Lily with a frown.
“Uhh.” Lily arched a brow, growing more impatient, “we don’t usually call him for breakfast, he always comes for it before leaving for work.”
“Well he’s late today!” She snapped, taking herself by surprise. She exhaled loudly and pinched the spot between her brows. She had woken up extra early after not getting a good night’s rest just so she could take note of when Asher leaves, yet he was nowhere to be found, and the fact that she had less than 2 hours now before her dad’s stipulated deadline was getting her agitated. Tim sorry… She finally said to the startled help, “I didn’t mean To stap at you like that.”
He
her a tight–lipped smile and nodded before he hurriedly packed the vacuum and disappeared into the kitchen. Lily stared at his retreating figure and sighed. She didn’t mean to scare him away.
Her eyes once again went to the clock, before darting to the stairs, and this time around, she stood up and went marching to his room. He couldn’t have possibly chosen to stay home today of all days.
Standing before his door, she drew a deep breath and exhaled softly before she knocked on the door. No response came the first time, and she knocked again, and again, yet no response. “Oh come on She pulled at the door handle and the door pushed open, but she was met with a pitch black room. “Asher: Are you okay? You are late for work” She stated, fiddling with the wall in search of the switch
“Can you hear me? I said you are late for… Ahat She paused as she was about to flip the switch, “I’m turning the light on, is that okay with you?” He still didn’t respond. She sucked her teeth and immediately turned the light on, ready to give him a piece of her mind at his perceived childish behavior, but all her words died down in her mouth when she saw him, shivering like a cat in the rain under the duvet.
“Oh my God! Asher! What happened?!” She quickly ran over to his side and pressed her hands against his head, and she skin. You are burning up.”

Lily quickly helped him adjust properly before she rushed into the bathroom and got a bowl of cold water and a towel, then rushed back to the room to bring his temperature down. She cleaned his body about 6 times and changed the bowl of water twice before his body came down to a reasonable temperature, and she let out a breath of relief, placing a wet towel on his forehead.
“Stay right here and don’t move, okay? I’m going to get you something to eat and I’m going to call the doctor. She stood up to walk away, when his hand enclosed around her wrist stopping her. “Do you need anything?”“
“T–time” he crooked, his voice hoarse and dry. Lily immediately picked up the small clock by his bedside drawer and read the time out to him.
“It’s 8:45. Is anything wrong?” She asked, her eyes roaming around his face, looking for any sign of extra discomfort.
“Meeting. 1- I have an important meeting by 10, you need to go in place of me.”
Lily’s eyes widened and she immediately shook her head. “No, no… No talks about work, that’s not what’s important right now, Asher. Your health come first, so lie right here, Im going to get food and a doctor.” He opened his mouth to protest, but a glare from her immediately shut him up and he sighed, nodding
Once she made sure he was okay, she rushed out of the room and into the kitchen. “Marie, please I need you to contact the doctor. Asher is down with something” She instructed as soon as she walked into the kitchey, while bringing out all the needs to cook soup. Marie immediately dashed out of the kitchen into the living room to call the doctor while Lily got down to the business of muking soup.
This was the first time she was walking into the kitchen since she left the first time, and it was oddly comforting. It would have been thore comforting if she wasn’t making soup for a sick Asher,
30 minutes later, the doctor had come and carried out a check up on Asher, which ended with a few drugs prescription and advice for bed rest for a couple of days. Asher had kicked violently against the bed rest for a couple of days, and refused to heed any warnings and threats from the doctor and Lily alike, till Lily agreed to stand in for him at the meeting.
“So what exactly am I even going to do at the meeting! I have zero idea about your business world” Lily paced around the room, shooting daggers at Asher, who seemed to be enjoying the show from the little smile tugging at the corners of his lips. “If you weren’t sick. I would have punched you in the face for smiling at me like that”
He chuckled at her words, which was soon intercepted by a cough, and it had Lily running to his side the nest second, stopping him from sitting up. “The doctor said bed rest, Asher.”
“And I’m on the bed, am I not
She rolled her eyes and gently helped him to sit up. “You don’t have to worry so much about the meeting, it’s nothing you can’t handle. You might

find yourself enjoying it”
I don’t enjoy meetings, I enjoy designing and decorating”
He sighed and pointed to the drawer. “The file for the meeting is in there,” Lily pulled it open and brought out a file, and Asher nodded in agreement, “you can through it on the ride there. My PA would also brief you on it too. You can handle it.”
“Why can’t you wait till you are.
“It’s 9.33, you’re running late.” He said, cutting her off and Lily glared at him.
“Marie is going to check on you at intervals, do not give her a hard time and just do she tells you to do
“Even if she says I should dip my hand inside fire?”
Lily nodded. “Yes. Now, bye”
