Chapter 50: The Best Decision She Made

Wyatt’s words provoked Julian, causing him to become more aggressive. But Julian was no match for Wyatt. At this moment, Chloe finally came to her senses. Trembling, she stood up and grabbed Wyatt’s

arm

Wyatt, let’s leave. I’m sorry you had to see me like this.”

She didn’t want Wyatt to witness this awful side of her. She had worked so hard to rebuild her life, but her past, like a relentless demon, kept pulling her back, making it impossible to break free

Wyatt kept a cautious eye on Julian but turned to Chloe with a calming expression. Do you want to call the police?”

Chloe glanced at Julian and shook her head. No, let’s just leave.”

Wyatt respected her choice. If she didn’t want to involve the police, he wouldn’t push it. He released Julian and gave him a hard shove into the bookshelf

Julian hit the bookshelf with such force that his face twisted in pain. Chloe asked Wyatt, Can you help carry these things? I don’t have any strength left.”

Wyatt nodded, grabbing the bag of books with one hand while gently supporting Chloe with the other as they walked out

Julian remained where he was, seething as he watched them leave. In his anger, he threw several objects to the floor

Once inside the car, Chloe closed her eyes. Six yearsneither long nor short. When she first moved into Julian’s villa, she was full of hope for their future. She had carefully arranged many things in the house. But she never imagined that when she finally left, it would be under such degrading circumstances

The anticipation she once felt when she moved in was now replaced with deep disappointment. But at least now, the villa, the people inside it, had nothing to do with her anymore

Wyatt drove in silence. He occasionally glanced at Chloe, noting her quiet demeanor. He didn’t say anything, just kept a watchful eye in case she needed him

When they reached a small alley near the school, Chloe noticed the car had stopped and opened her eyes. She had tried to rest on the way over, but every time she closed her eyes, memories of the past flooded her mind, preventing her from relaxing. However, the drive had given her enough time to calm her emotions

Looking at Wyatt, Chloe’s expression was complicated. Thank you again for helping me

It’s no problem.”

Wyatt shook his head, dismissing her thanks

Chloe fell silent again. Both this time and the last, Wyatt had been a gentleman. He hadn’t pried into her personal life, allowing her to keep what little dignity she had left

Suddenly, her stomach growled. The sound wasn’t loud, but in the quiet car, it was unmistakable. Chloe blushed in embarrassment. She hadn’t eaten anything that morning, too preoccupied with getting her things from the villa. Now, after everything that had happened, she was starving

She wasn’t sure if Wyatt had heard, but before she could say anything to brush it off, Wyatt spoke up

We’re not far from campus. How about we grab something at the cafeteria? I doubt you’ve eaten there in a while.”

for the Madi

Chloe blinked in surprise, then nodded

They ended up sitting in the school cafeteria. The university was prestigious, with a dining hall that was known for its quality food. Even now, the place was filled with students

During her time as a student, Chloe had loved eating here, especially on the second floor, where the food was more to her liking. She hadn’t expected to return like this after all these years

Chloe picked a few of her old favorite dishes. Wyatt paid for both of them, and they found a table

As she took her first bite, memories flooded back. The taste hadn’t changed at all, and she felt a sense of nostalgia

Back when I was a student, I often got so wrapped up in my experiments that I forgot to eat. There was one dish here that I loved, so I set alarms just to make sure I didn’t miss it,she said, a small smile playing on her lips

Being in a familiar place, eating familiar food, seemed to relax her

I didn’t have many close friends back then, she continued, her tone soft. Aside from Mia, it was really just my professors who cared about me: They were always willing to listen. And now, I guess I have you

too.”

Wyatt paused at her words but said nothing

“I’ve always thought being a student was the best time of my life. Life was simpler here. You could focus on what you wanted to do without all the complications of adulthood, she mused, her smile growing wider. Maybe choosing to pursue a graduate degree was the best decision I ever made.”

After they finished eating, they wandered around campus. Chloe watched the students passing by, each one holding books or bags, laughing and chatting with friends. Their youthful joy and energy were things she hadn’t seen in a long time. She felt a pang of longing for those simpler times

After walking for a while, Chloe grew tired and sat down on a bench. Wyatt sat next to her without saying

a word

The breeze feels so nice here, she said softly

Wyatt nodded. They recently got a grant to revamp this area. It’s become a popular spot for students to relax. It’s really peaceful.”

Chloe fell silent for a long time, her mind drifting back to what had happened earlier. Finally, she hesitantly looked at Wyatt. About what happened earlier”

That manwas he your boyfriend?Wyatt asked, though he already had a sense of the answer

When I was waiting for you earlier, I overheard some of your conversation. I’m sorry for intruding.”

Chloe smiled, shaking her head. There’s nothing to apologize for. We broke up recently, but the breakup didn’t go smoothly.”

Wyatt nodded slightly. He had figured as much when he heard their argument. Being together for so many. years only to have things end badlythere had to be a deeper story behind it

Then, suddenly, he realized that the young man he had met downstairs the other dayMatthewprobably wasn’t her boyfriend after all
