Chapter 106
When the police reached out to Courtney, she brought the divorce certificate and agreement over
Austin was there too, losing his control and trying to lunge at Courtney
The police quickly stopped Austin. “What are you doing?”
“Where’s my daughter?” Austin angrily asked Courtney
Courtney remained calm and looked at the police. “Look, his emotions are too unstable, Ecan’t trust him with our daughter, and even though he signed
the divorce agreement, now he wants to back out.”
After saying this, Courtney looked at Austin with pity in her eyes. “Tcan’t believe you’d use such a tactic to keep dragging this on.”
Austin looked at Courtney in shock and panic, grabbing a copy of the divorce agreement and carefully looking through it.
Sure enough, he found differences in the clauses that were not what he had signed before.
The document stated that Austin voluntarily gave up custody of his daughter, giving full custody to Courtney
Feeling guilty, nervous, and wanting to avoid more conflict, he quickly signed the divorce papers…
Every step was part of Courtney’s plan.
No wonder she wanted him to sign again; it wasn’t an issue with his handwriting, but because she needed to change the terms of the divorce agreement.
Staring at Courtney in disbelief and anger, Austin hadn’t expected to be outsmarted by her
He pointed a trembling finger at Courtney, unable to say a single word.
It had been five years, and not only had he changed; Courtney had changed as well.
Courtney kept a cold look as she watched him and then smiled, “Let’s not waste public resources; the police have other important things to handle, don’t you think?”
Austin clenched his fists tightly. “Courtney, you’ve set me up..
“There’s something wrong with my parents‘ death,” Courtney whispered suddenly in Austin’s ear. “Right before they died, you bought them a big insurance policy…”
If Courtney decided to report it to the police, Austin would be a primary suspect in the investigation.
Even without solid evidence, Austin’s reputation would suffer,
Austin took a deep breath, his eyes still showing shock and disbelief
The officer said, “We’ve gone over the divorce agreement, and it’s been notarized by the courthouse. You’ve already received the divorce certificate.
“So legally, there’s no connection between you two anymore. However, custody of Phoebe is with Ms. Courtney Edwards, so sir, please don’t cause a scene and discuss it amicably”
The officer glanced at Austin and spoke again. If you need us to help mediate, we can help.”

“No need, thanks, We’ll sort it out ourselves. Sorry for using public resources. Courtney politely nodded to the officer.
Once the officer left, Austin lowered his voice, “Courtney, what’s happened to you now?”
“Thanks to you,” Courtney chuckled.
Austin clenched his fist. “Where’s Phoebe”
“Do you think I’ll tell you?” Courtney gestured for Austin to sit on the bench. “Let’s talk about the compensation for my parents‘ house demolition and
the issue with my house”
Austin never imagined that one day Courtney would have him in a difficult position:
“What do you want?” Austin asked through clenched teeth.
“Debts must be repaid” Courtney looked at Austin,
She didn’t want to waste her time on him,
She just wanted him to pay back the money.
“I’ve told you, you have one month to sell your shares and assets and return the money that’s mine,” Courtney said seriously y to Austin
“You think you can take Phoebe somewhere? Do you think I can’t find her?” Austin threatened with clenched teeth.
“Austin, I’ve got her custody. If you want to take her back, you’ll have to take me to court. Go ahead and see how long it takes, and whether your daughter stays safe until then.”
Courtney laughed bitterly, her smile mixed with sadness and indifference.
She stood up, looking down at him. “Austin. you know me well. If I go all out, you know how frightening I can be.”
She no longer had any parents or family.
She had nothing to lose.
“I could die at any time, and your daughter will be with me,” Courtney whispered in Austin’s ear.
Then she turned around and left.
“Courtney!” Austin yelled angrily.
Courtney didn’t pause but stopped at the doorway. “Don’t forget, just one month.”
Watching Courtney leave, Austin angrily called Marilyn. “It was your lousy idea to put Phoebe under Courtney’s name. Now, because I let my guard down, with Vera not around, Courtney’s taken custody!”
On the other end, Marilyn paused, her voice low. “Courtney got Phoebe’s custody? Are you dumb?”
Austin was angry too
angry too. “If it wasn’t for your dub ideas, would I have been so careless?”
In short, they underestimated Courtney.
They all thought Courtney was just a naive, kind woman who wouldn’t fight back.

They didn’t expect Courtney to make a move like this.
“What does she want?” Marilyn asked
“She wants her parents‘ compensation and the money for the old house!” Austin replied seriously.

“Don’t give it to her. Ithave someone watch Courtney and take the child away, solve this issue once and for all,” Marilyn snapped before hanging up.
Austin knew that if Marilyn took action, things would look bad for Courtney.
To completely resolve the issue meant completely dealing with Courtney.
Austin took a deep breath and raised his hand to cover his forehead.

For the sake of Phoebe, he had no other way. Courtney had already lost her mind.
