Chapter 26
Seeing Avery melt in his arms, Joshua couldn’t help but smile with satisfaction.
Avery glared at him, her expression filled with irritation, but the look lacked any real threat. It only seemed to encourage him to tease her more. His fingertips lingered on her smooth skin, making her bite her lip in restraint.
Noticing her attempt to hold back, Joshua’s eyes gleamed with amusement. He deliberately leaned in close and whispered again in her ear, “Was the candy sweet?”
His warm breath tickled her ear, making her shiver.
Seeing that she didn’t respond, Joshua, as if savoring the moment, repeated the question over and over again, almost as though he was trying to torture her.
Avery’s eyes had already taken on a hazy, flushed look, her gaze half–lidded as she mumbled,
Yes…‘
Before she could say more, his kiss silenced her. Their breaths mingled, and before long, Avery found herself wrapping her arms around his neck, pulling him into the kiss.
When the passion finally settled, she felt like she had been run over by a car–her body ached in every spot. But Joshua, on the other hand, appeared completely unaffected.
Looking at his cold, aloof profile, she couldn’t help but curse him deep down. What a joke, thinking he was an unapproachable CEO who was immune to women. Every time he looked at her, it was like a starving wolf eyeing its prey. He was nothing but a well–dressed beast.
“What are you thinking about?” His voice interrupted her thoughts.
She jumped, startled, and snapped back to reality. “Nothing… nothing at all,” she stammered, awkwardly rubbing her nose, feeling a little guilty.
“Nothing?” He raised an eyebrow, clearly not believing her.
When he leaned toward her, she instinctively pulled back. “Don’t…”

He reached out and tucked a stray lock of hair behind her ear. Seeing the flustered panic on her face, he couldn’t resist a smirk and teased, “What were you just thinking about?”
Her face turned bright red in an instant. Watching her, Joshua felt a sense of delight. He gently lifted her chin, forcing her to look him in the eye. “Your face is so red. What was going through your mind just now?”
Her face was so crimson it almost seemed like it would bleed. She bit her lip, avoiding his gaze,
unable to say a word.
He took a moment to enjoy her flustered expression before finally letting her go.

“Don’t worry, I won’t touch you again for now. But…” He paused, letting the tension build. Avery, who had just begun to relax, immediately tensed up again.
Seeing her anxious look, he chuckled lightly. “But if my dear Mrs. Smith has any other ‘needs,‘ I’d be more than happy to accommodate.”
She punched him angrily, but he caught her fist, looking genuinely surprised. “Not bad for someone so young–quite the temper. Are you planning to murder your husband?”
“Not yet,” she shot back with a sly grin.
“Hmm?” He raised an eyebrow. “What do you mean?”
Avery’s smile was mischievous. “We’re not even married yet. If you die now, I won’t get anything from it.”
Joshua’s face twitched. Seeing him flustered, Avery couldn’t help but laugh louder. She winked at him innocently, her expression pure as she asked, “Isn’t that right?”
“Yes.”
Joshua’s simple admission took her by surprise. She processed his easy concession, and she was about to question it when Joshua spoke again.
