Liam bought not only the sapphire set but the other pieces Amelia had

admired as well.

She tugged on his hand, about to protest, but he silenced her with a kiss.

“Hope, your happiness is worth more than any amount of money.”

Amelia looked into his eyes, seeing only her reflection.

Their relationship blossomed. Finally, Amelia agreed to meet his family and

friends back home.

Their arrival in China was kept quiet. Only Liam’s inner circle knew she was

back. He shielded her from prying eyes. Amelia remained unaware that Ethan,

having learned of her return through a overheard conversation between Ian and

the housekeeper, had spent a sleepless night in the pouring rain outside Liam’s

family home.

Ian had kept Ethan grounded for months, preventing him from chasing

after Amelia. Now, she was back in the city. He had to see her.

But she never appeared.

Inside, soft light spilled from a second–floor window, accompanied by the

muffled sounds of lovemaking. Ethan watched the window, his heart twisting,

imagining Amelia in Liam’s arms. He could almost hear her soft moans. He

wanted to run, but he couldn’t tear himself away, his gaze fixed on the window

as the light flickered on and off.

He remembered his own trysts with Chloe, right under Amelia’s nose. Had

she felt this same agonizing pain

He finally understood why she’d left, why she’d chosen to disappear. No one

could endure that kind of betrayal.

He opened his mouth, his voice a broken whisper. “Can I… can I see her?”

Liam’s fist connected with his jaw. “You have no right.”

back.

Stiff and cold from the rain, Ethan couldn’t defend himself. He stumbled

Liam took a handkerchief from a nearby guard, wiping his hand with disgust, then tossing it at Ethan’s feet.“Call the Carters.”

Liam turned and walked awayleaving Ethan alone in the darknessThe

door slammed shut.

Thunder cracked overhead, lightning illuminating Ethan’s pale faceHe

swayed, then collapsed.
