Silas looked up. For a fleeting moment, he thought it was really Amelia.
“Amy! You’re back! I’ve been looking everywhere for you…” He pulled the
woman into a tight embrace, tears spilling onto her shoulder, making her tremble.
Then reality crashed down. Her scent was wrong.
This wasn’t Amy.
He shoved her away, pinning her against the table, his hand tightening
around her throat until her face turned red, her eyes rolled back in her head.
She struggled, gasping for air.
“Silas! Stop it! You’re going to kill her!” His friends pulled him back,
breaking his hold.
He stumbled back, his eyes clearing, his gaze sweeping over their faces,
registering their presence.“I just warned you. And you still… We’re done. We’re
not friends anymore. We’re enemies. If it weren’t for you…” He didn’t finish the
sentence, but the implication hung heavy in the air. If it weren’t for you, I
wouldn’t have betrayed Amy.
His words hit them like a ton of bricks. The Sterling family held immense
power in Boston. Crossing Silas Sterling was a death sentence to their social
standing and their businesses.

Panic set in. One man slapped himself, hard, regret etched on his face. The
others followed suit, each blow a testament to their regret. They’d pushed him,

But there were no second chances,
Silas stumbled home, drunk and heartbroken. He’d found backups of some
of the photos Amy had destroyed and printed them, placing them back in their
frames, Others were lost forever.
He tried to restore the house to its former state, but it was no use. Without
Amy, it felt empty and lifeless.
He stood at the window, noticing for the first time that from this angle, he
could see the entire garden. He realized with a sickening lurch that she’d seen
him kissing Bethany,
He clutched his chest, gasping for breath, the pain a sharp, agonizing
reminder of his betrayal.
John, any news on Amy?”
I’m sorry, Mr. Sterling. Nothing yet.”
He hung up, defeated. He’d hired private investigators, scouring the city, the
country. But she’d erased her identity. Even her airport records were under a

Sterling family’s influence, while vast, didn’t extend far beyond US borders.
Finding her was like searching for a needle in a haystack

Her erased identity meant their marriage was null and void in the eyes of the
