Chapter20
Jordan pulled up the chat record on his phone.
He was telling his roommates that he had just paid off some overdue project payments for
his company.
he conversation that followed was about that.
Somehow, that chat record ended up in Elena’s hands, and she twisted it out of context.
“But how did she know you were going to help me pay off debt?”
my
“She has experience with helping people pay off debts, so I asked her about it.”
Jordan drove back to his place.
It was my third time here, but my feelings were completely different from before.
“Let’s clear things up today,” Jordan said, pouring me a cup of coffee. “Hannah, I have a lot of questions to ask you.”
“Go ahead.”
“Why did you break up with me?”
“I became a burden. After thinking it over, breaking up seemed like the best option.”
“It wasn’t because you got bored?”
I froze for a moment, then remembered. “Tired of it” was the reason I gave when we broke
- up.
After I said those two words, Jordan walked away without looking back.
He said heavily, “I thought you treated me like a toy. After four years, you got tired of me. With
your family’s troubles, I couldn’t help you, so you didn’t want me anymore.”
How could he think that?

I opened my mouth to speak but didn’t say anything.
Jordan spoke first, “Even if that’s the case, it doesn’t matter.”
He seemed afraid to hear the answer, so he laid all his cards on the table.
“Hannah, I’ve already made up my mind.”
“Even if I’m just a toy to you, I want to stay by your side.”
