Chapter 8
Chapter 8
At that moment, I finally understood why his attitude had changed.
He wanted to have his fun outside while keeping things stable at home?
To me, this was the ultimate humiliation!
I slapped him hard again.
The tension in the room was suffocating, and just then, Ava walked in uninvited, as if
she hadn’t noticed the heavy atmosphere.
Dressed in a custom gown worth seven figures, she walked up to me.
“Mrs. Evans, Mr. Evans loves you so much. You shouldn’t make things difficult for
him.”
“Even though I’m carrying his child, I have no intention of coming between you two.”
I raised my hand and slapped her across the face, causing one side of her face to
swell.
A flash of malice crossed her eyes, but she quickly switched to a pitiful expression,
pleading with me.
“Mrs. Evans, if hitting me makes you feel better, I don’t mind. I’m just trying to ease
Mr. Evans’s burden.”
“How about this? Why don’t you accompany Mr. Evans to the gala tonight?”
Lucas immediately pulled Ava into his arms, his eyes dark and unreadable as he
glared at me.

“Eva, don’t be ungrateful. Now go and get ready.”
I stepped over the suitcase on the floor, scoffing coldly.
“No, I’m not going. Tomorrow, you’ll receive the divorce papers from my lawyer.”
A flicker of delight flashed in Ava’s eyes, but she pretended to be confused, letting
out a soft “Oh.”
“Really? Are you divorcing him because of me? That would make me the villain,
wouldn’t it?”
Seeing that I wasn’t paying them any attention and was about to walk out, Lucas
suddenly grabbed my wrist, his face darkening.
“Where do you think you’re going? Got some other man out there? Is that why
you’re suddenly asking for a divorce?”
This was no sudden decision, and it wasn’t about Ava–it was because Lucas had
completely disgusted me.
I tried to pull away, but Lucas dragged me to the car and shoved me into the
passenger seat.
Ava, who had been momentarily forgotten, quickly followed and got into the car as
well.
The scent of their matching perfumes made me nauseous.
Noticing this, Lucas rolled down the window and suspiciously asked, “Didn’t you just
have your period a few days
0? Are you…?”

Realizing there was no way to jump out of the car, I shot him an annoyed glare and
closed my eyes in silence.
Lucas, however, intentionally drove at breakneck speed, causing Ava to gasp and
moan dramatically in the back seat.
As soon as we arrived, I slammed the door and tried to leave.
But Lucas grabbed me by the waist, nearly making me fall, and dragged me toward
the event.
He pressed his hand into my still–healing abdomen, cursing angrily.
“Eva, what was that blood the other day? Are you…?”
I was about to push him away when the company’s biggest investor, Mr. Taylor,
arrived.
He had always liked me, and he greeted me with a warm smile.
“Mrs. Evans, your relationship with Mr. Evans is still so strong. It’s admirable.”
“Even though you’ve been a supportive wife all these years, don’t waste your talents.
I’m looking forward to your comeback.”
I appreciated that Mr. Taylor still remembered the days when I was a force to be
reckoned with. The chill in my body seemed to intensify.
I didn’t care about Lucas’s reputation and smiled faintly.
“Mr. Taylor, Mr. Evans is my ex–husband. I’ll count on your support for my new
company.”

Lucas was more upset about me keeping this a secret than being called my exhushakd
He quickly grabbed my arm, his voice cold.
“When did you start a new company? Is there really another man?”
