He moved away to answer the call, and upon his return, his step was noticeably lighter, “Boss, I have an update,” Leo declared, his voice tinged with excitement.
Morris’s face was a mask of indifference as he casually acknowledged Leo with a “Him”
Leo, picking up the thread, said, “It’s about Ms. Leach”
Eager for details, Morris looked up sharply. “What’s the word?”
With swift steps, Leo reached Morris and passed him the phone
Morris’s scowl from a moment ago was replaced by a broad grin as he checked the phone.
Steven and Hugh gaped, their eyes widening in surprise.
“Steven, Morris called out.
“Here, Steven answered..
“Reschedule tonight’s meeting by an hour. I’ve got to run by Havenwood Estates to collect Cherise and take her home,” Morris announced. With that, he strode out of the office, his step lively, not bothering to look back.
Steven and Hugh gaped, still reeling from the unexpected sight. Was that really Mr. Chivers?” Steven muttered, his voice -mirroring their collective shock.
Leo, grinning, clapped them both on the back. “Sure was. Looks like our boss has got it bad,” he said, clearly amused.
“Are you serious?” Steven and Hugh exclaimed, disbelief ringing in their voices.
With a chuckle, Leo shook his head. “You single guys wouldn’t understand,” he jibed, strolling toward the door.
“As if you’re any different!” Steven hollered at Leo’s retreating figure.
Leo just gave a dramatic groan and picked up his pace.
As the evening drew to a close after dinner with the Leach family, Oliver arranged for a car to take Cherise home. Exiting the Leach manor, Cherise saw the Rolls–Royce waiting in the driveway, as it had been earlier that day.
She told the driver to stop, expressed her gratitude, and then stepped out of the vehicle.
The soft streetlamp light framed Cherise as she approached, leaving Morris breathless and a smile creeping onto his face.

Meanwhile, Morris remained oblivious to her thoughts, standing there with clear and genuine intentions.

Morris felt her sudden formality like a shard of glass in his heart Why is she acting so distant now? Did I do something to change how she feels he pondered.
The car journey was heavy with an awkward silence. Cherise, deep in thought, leaned on the window, puzzled by the abrupt change in Morris’s behavior.
Maybe he’s just not into women? But that doesn’t add up; we’ve spent time alone, she mused.
Upon reaching Glenshire Gardens, Morris escorted Cherise to her door before quickly leaving, citing an urgent meeting
Once inside and away from the tense atmosphere, Cherise let out a sigh, the weight of confusion lifting. “Men are such a puzzle,’ she thought.
Cherise’s phone buzzed, and seeing Xenia’s name, she picked up
Xenia’s ecstatic voice filled the line, “Cherise, you rocked it. You’re off the hook with that engagement.”
Cherise had to pull the phone away from her ear because of the volume. ‘Xenia, where’d you hear about it?” she asked,
curious.
Xenia’s voice dripped with sarcasm, “Shirley made sure everyone knew. She went on social media to make it clear she wasn’t the one who took your guy”
Cherise laughed, visualizing Shirley’s dramatic online posts. “That’s classic Shirley,” she said.
Xenia’s excitement bubbled over. “We can’t let this go without a party. I’m throwing you a celebration tomorrow night. Time to party and forget about that mama’s boy,” she declared, her enthusiasm contagious.
Cherise was shocked by the conversation. She didn’t consider it to be a cause for celebration.
Xenia’s bubbly voice echoed through the phone. “Cherise, you got this, right? The bash is at my uncle Truman’s joint. You need to show up like you’re the queen of the night, with everyone else as your subjects,” she said, her excitement barely contained.
“Got it,” Cherise replied, hanging up the phone with a shrug.
With a laugh, Cherise put the phone down, feeling a surge of warmth. Despite her grandmother’s passing, she was still wrapped in love, with Bella, Dennis, Xenia, Marlon, the Leach family, Dora, Trent, and many more by her side.
