Chapter 40
ISABEL’S POINT OF VIEW
“Calm down, Isabel, I can literally feel your fear,” Savannah’s voice reached me, and I screamed in horror as our hands released from each other’s grip.
“Oh my goodness, I can’t…please, I can’t do it,” I cried out as my body shook from the fear that surged through me.
“Isa…to channel your powers, you need to open up your heart and connect to me. It’s a dangerous ritual, but if we can connect Isabel, then we have her,” she explained, and I sighed softly.
“Is this the only way?” I asked again, and her eyes softened in my direction.
“I know this whole thing is so hard for you, considering the fact that you love her so much and this whole process hurts. But we have to do this to get the answers we want.” She tried to convince me.
“Grandma Shu holds the answers to the numerous questions in your head. To do that, we need to channel her spirit,” she replied as her eyes burned into me.
“You need to relax… take a deep breath and try to do this with me, okay?” she encouraged, and I nodded as my eyes stung with tears.
“I can’t…please, I can’t,” I cried out as I felt a burning sensation in my fingers, and Savannah’s grip on my hand tightened as we joined forces. I didn’t know what we were doing, but I could literally feel us exchanging power.
“Relax, we are almost doing it, almost dear…” she urged, and I cried out, then went silent as the wind blew into the room with a strange force from outside Grandma Shu’s house. It was late, and the trees outside the house made it more mysterious.
“She’s here, I…I can sense her, I can sense her, Savannah,” I breathed, and her grip on my hand tightened further.
“We’ve almost got it, you just need to relax and take a deep breath in and out,” she directed, and I did exactly as she instructed.
“I can sense her too. She’s here,” Yuna murmured, sniffing back the tears that threatened to escape her eyes. I guessed I wasn’t the only one badly affected by Grandma Shu’s untimely demise.
“I can see her,” Gina whispered, and my eyes snapped open. The whole thing looked like a scene right out of a horror movie. “Isabel,” she called, and I burst into tears as my body shook with different emotions.
“You shouldn’t have brought me back, what you’ve done can bring a lot of bad things,” she warned, and I rubbed my forehead anxiously.
Savannah began, “Grandma Shu, a lot of things have gone wrong ever since you left. Isabel needs answers because her name and position as the Luna are at stake as we speak.”
“Jena has dropped a prophecy about her, which might cause a separation between both brothers and might lead the pack into chaos. If something isn’t done, it will lead to more disaster, Savannah revealed, and tears rolled down my cheeks.
“I can’t…say anything. My hands are tied, you’ve channeled my spirit from the land of the dead, and a lot of things could go wrong, she cautioned.
I commented, “A lot of things are already wrong, Grandma Shu Losing you happens to be the hardest thing to have ever happened to me. For years, I lived in this pack, downgraded by my own parents, destroyed by the harshness of their words and left to believe I was not worth their love and affection.
Even my sisters took every opportunity to cause me pain, but then you came into the picture with your love and affection.

the same affection that drove you to your death…I love you so much! I love you, Grandma Shu!” I trailed off, bursting into tears. Savannah rubbed my back to help me calm down.
“You are unique, Isabel. You are here for a purpose, and it’s up to you to get back on your feet and fulfill your purpose,” she encouraged, and I nodded, still confused about the whole purpose stuff.

“Grandma Shu, I’m so sorry for letting them break the love and affection between Isabel and me. I’m sorry I caused us pain and didn’t stick to your advice,” Yuna confessed, tears streaming down her face.
“I always knew the both of you would find your way back to each other, even if you held grudges against each other. This is the most beautiful gift you could have ever given me, and I’m glad to see you both like this,” she admitted, while Savannah looked impatient the entire time.
“I know we really need this whole emotional talk right now, but a lot of things could go wrong. You’ve not learned to control your powers as a witch, and my spell won’t last long. So you need to tell us something, just anything that could lead us to something that can help us,” Savannah urged, and Grandma Shu shook her head.
“The fact that you’ve channeled my spirit back here is already enough disaster, but I can’t let you all go without telling you the truth you deserve to know…” she trailed off, and Gina looked more interested in whatever she was about to say.
She began, “Before all of this happened, I told you about how the witches stayed back in my house and we helped them escape from the pack. After what you told me, I tried to find out more, and it didn’t end well.”
“The ex–Alpha hated them so much, and when they couldn’t get him the answers he desperately sought, he sent them into exile and made sure they never lived to tell the story. All those who managed to escape promised never to return. And at this point, we know what happened! The rest is history,” she stated calmly.
“Wait, you mean you helped witches escape? That means the story we’ve known since we were kids has more sides than we were made to believe?” Gina questioned curiously.
“Yes, I stumbled upon some journals that had the addresses of some of the senior witches from the coven and how to locate them, that is what led me out of the pack to try and meet them. I found out something very deep,” she disclosed.
“What did you find out?” I inquired calmly.
“You are not the biological child of your parents. Neither are Amelia and Evelyn your biological sisters,” she revealed, and my heart clenched in hurt.
Yuna siad, “Yes, Grandma Shu is right, Isabel. Your mom did something you should know. Somehow, she threatened me to rekindle our lost relationship and get you to trust me, all in a bid to hurt you.”
“They are so desperate to the point that she’s blackmailing me with the debts my parents owe her,” Yuna added, and I cursed under my breath.
This whole revelation was just too much for me to handle. But somehow, the truth didn’t hurt as much as I imagined it would.
After everything they had done to me, it all made sense now that realized I wasn’t their biological daughter. It made sense why Amelia and Evelyn hated me with every fiber of their being I thought as tears rolled down my cheeks.
“Don’t be too hard on yourself, Isabel. You have to be strong and get ready to find your true purpose because I couldn’t get to the truth before I was silenced. This is not the time to cry and mourn my death. My death should not break you but make you stronger,” Grandma Shu scolded me firmly.
“It’s hard, Grandma Shu, way too hard for me to bear. At this point, I don’t even know how to live with everything I’ve just heard,” I admitted, and Savannah held my hand in support.
“I found out that you have the blood of a strong witch. It’s crazy, but that blood led all the way to Celeste,” she disclosed, and my heart pounded against my chest.

“What do you mean?” Savannah gasped. Celeste was the same witch who placed a curse on the brothers due to the betrayal from their father.
“My father’s mistress?” Savannah asked in shock.
“Okay, I think I’m about to lose my mind from this whole information. Did you manage to gather anything else?” Gina asked, still trying to process the shock.
“I’m afraid I couldn’t get to the bottom of it. But with what you’ve heard now, I assure you it will aid your search for the truth,” she replied calmly.
“Grandma Shu, my head is running with different thoughts right now, and I think I’m about to lose my mind,” I confessed, and she looked at me sympathetically.
“The big question in the room right now is why you were silenced. Who killed you?” Yuna inquired, and her tone was filled with curiosity.
“I don’t know who killed me. I was returning to the pack when I was stabbed and left to die. But one thing I recognized was the royal cloak,” Grandma Shu disclosed.
“The same royal cloak Yuna was talking about,” I murmured, and Yuna rubbed her face in realization.
“Why would anyone from the royal family try to silence Grandma Shu if they didn’t have a hidden agenda? That’s what I don’t understand at this point,” Gina remarked, and I stared into space as Savannah winced in pain and Grandma Shu’s spirit faded away.
“Oh my goodness, are you okay, babe?” I asked, and she shook her head.
“I’m so sorry this happened,” I consoled, helping her sit down as Gina brought a glass of water for her.
“I don’t know what to say, but then we’ve heard in detail how everything took place. The big question is who in the royal family killed Grandma Shu? And what are they trying to hide?” she asked after drinking from the glass, and an uncomfortable silence filled the room.
I rubbed my forehead, and tears streamed down my cheeks. I had the blood of a witch running through my veins, and I might have been more than a Luna. But at that point, none of it really mattered. All that mattered to me was solving the mystery of Grandma Shu’s death.
