Molly turned her head suddenly, locking her gaze on Avery, who was standing nearby.
With tear–filled eyes, she looked at Avery with a pained expression. “Ave, Abigail is your sister, no matter what. Are you not going to speak up for her?”
Avery was taken aback by Molly’s shameless words.
Seeing her unmoved, Molly sank to the floor and started crying. “How can you be so heartless? You’re watching your own sister get mistreated and doing nothing about it. What kind of sin have I committed to have raised an ungrateful wretch like you?”
As she threw herself on the floor in a dramatic scene, Howard’s face darkened, but he silently closed his eyes, choosing to ignore the drama. He didn’t say a word to stop her.
Avery couldn’t help but laugh as she watched Molly’s performance. “Ms. Green, are you out of your mind? Abigail stole my fiancé, and now that she’s been dumped, you want me to speak up for her.”
“She only ended up like this because you’re so useless…” Molly’s words lost strength toward the end, but she quickly thought of another angle. “But now you have a brighter future ahead of you. Isn’t it natural for you to help Abigail?”
Avery looked at her, and the last bit of hope she had for Molly evaporated as those words left her mouth. She shouldn’t have had any expectations for Molly in the first place.
“Weren’t you the one who said you didn’t treat her as your daughter before? Why the sudden change of heart?” Joshua coldly glanced at Molly. “If you want to protect your adopted
daughter, that’s your business. But if you keep involving my wife, I’ll make sure you disappear.

With that, he took Avery and left. Once they were back in the car, Avery rolled down the window and took in a few deep breaths of fresh air, feeling a little better.
The breeze flowed in, but she heard Joshua start coughing again. She quickly rolled the window back up, feeling a wave of guilt as she turned to him. “I’m sorry you had to witness all of that today.”
Joshua didn’t respond right away, silently pulling two candies out of his pocket and offering them to her.
Avery paused for a moment, surprised. She hadn’t expected someone like Joshua, a corporate CEO, to carry candy around in his pocket.
Seeing her stunned expression, Joshua couldn’t help but sigh slightly. He popped one of the candies in his mouth, then leaned in and kissed her. His arms encircled her slender waist, trapping her in place.

Avery was stunned, her eyes wide with confusion.
Noticing her reaction, Joshua’s gaze darkened. He kissed her more deeply, the milk candy’s sweetness mingling between their lips, creating an increasingly charged atmosphere in the car. He used one hand to firmly hold her waist while using the other to slip toward her shirt.
Avery couldn’t help but let out a soft sigh. Realizing what was happening, she quickly pushed against him. But her push was weak, almost like the soft swipe of a kitten’s paw. The scene didn’t look like resistance, but more like a subtle game of push and pull.
Joshua chuckled lightly, placing a mark on her smooth neck. After enjoying it for a moment, he leaned in close to her ear and asked in a husky voice, “Is the candy sweet?”
