Chapter 59

“The fathers who participated can go rest and take refreshments. There would be a father and son race. If you would still like fine, but if you’re tired, you can let it go.” The coordinator announced.
Quinn and I walked towards the venue where Moon and Junior were seated.
Moon jumped in my arms, then in Quinn’s arms.
“That was so cool” He giggled.
to participate, that’s
“Yeah, yeah it was Proud of you boys” Junior nuttered.
Wait! Did he just say boys? Or is my car malfunctioning? It had to be my ear, there was no way he said that. The kid was bratty and
mischievous, but

“Are you going to be participating in the race? Do you still have the energy for it?” Moon asked in concern, looking from Quinn to me
“We would” I said. ruffling his hair
We sat for so
some moment, munching on some snacks and watching the others.
“Now it’s time for round two. Father and son race. It’s going to be a relay race. The kids would run up to their parents with the baton, who would eventually complete the race. The first person to cross the finish line, wins the race” The coordinator announced
Now I’ll be calling the names of the first five that’ll race now”
Jace Donn”
“Red Michaels”
“Moon Beverly.”
“Junior Winfrey
“Sel croft”
He called. “The students I called should make their way out with their fathers. The crowd cheered as we walked, following the kids.
“Kids, arrange yourselves in the track lines. And fathers, move to your p
positions on the track. The coordinator ordered.
Moon bit his tongue as if he there was something he wanted to say.
“Go on Moon. I know you have something to say.” I said,
“Can I exchange with uncle Quinn!” He asked, looking at me carnestly I sighed, he wanted his father. I didn’t like Quinn, but I wouldn’t deny a child a moment with his father.
“Alright you can. That’s if Junior was willing.” I said.
“Rrally! Thank you so much, Uncle Terry Junior is in support, we had discussed this” He beamed
“Hurry and go to Quinn” I nudged him.
He walked to Quinn, and Junior walked towards me with that annoying grin on his face.
“I saw your skills at the tug of war game, you aren’t that bad. We must win, Terry” He said.
Wait! Was it my car malfunctioning again, or Lactually heard lum call me Terryt
“Get on the line, Junior, the race is about to start.” I said sternly.
“On your tracks“” The coordinator yelled
“Go” He shouted as he blew his whistle
The kids started running at the sound of the whistle with the baton in their hands. I watched as junior was effortlessly leading the race. The other

to Junior. I stretched my hands, waiting for Junior.

kids were quite far behind. Moon was almost covering
But he intentionally slowed down, and let Moon reach Quinn first, handing him the baton before he handed the baton to me. I started running, trying to catch up with Quinn, but I was a few seconds late. And this was all because of Junior, if I received the baton on time, I was sure I would
I wondered what Junior was thinking. The other men were still behind, I ran, almost catching up with Quinn. But he increased his speed and crossed the finish line. The crowd stood up to cheer.
“What a marvelous race! The winners are obvious. Moon Beverly and Mr. Quinn! He exclaimed..
“The runner–ups are Junior Winfrey and Mr. Terry, Good job guys!” He said, and the crowd applauded.
Moon and Quinn went forward to receive their award for the race, it was a medal.
Junior walked towards me.
“Nice one, Terry, you’ve got skills. You could have bagged the first position, but second position is not too bad.” He said, pocketing his hands.
I gritted my teeth, this kid sure had the guts to say this, after he had deliberately slowed us down.
“Why did you do it?” I asked.
“Do what?” He asked innocently, but I wasn’t fooled.
“The stunt you pulled at the race, don’t act like you don’t know.” I groaned.
“Nothing much. I just wanted him to win.” He shrugged.
I looked at him suspiciously, trying to figure out what was in his mind. But his face was blank. I wondered if he was a kid, or some reincarnated adult. Kids didn’t behave the way he does.
We walked towards Quinn and Moon, who was bubbling with excitement.
“Let’s go for ice cream” Moon asked, batting eyelids.
“No.” I refused almost immediately
“Pretty please.” He continued, begging.
“I want to have some too Junior said, from nowhere.
I looked at Quinn, who stood, saying nothing.
“Alright. Let’s go.” I succumbed.
go.”
“Yayyyy” Moon gushed.
The race wasn’t over yet, the other people were already running in batches. I took them to a nearby ice cream shop. I ordered for chocolate, Junior asked for citrus flavoured ice–cream, while Quinn and Moon ordered the same vanilla flavoured ice–cream-
As they say near each other, I couldn’t help but notice the uncanny resemblance between them, the light blue eyes, the dark hair. The bond was actually there it only they knew.
Hooked at Quinn skeptically, wondering if he knew the child was his and was just playing along. But it didn’t seem so, if it were so, Quinn would probably use that as a guise to get close to Ana
I looked at Junior, who focused on the ice cream he was eating while occasionally nodding to what Moon was telling him.
I wondered if Junior had figured out something, he seemed very smart for a kid his age. As much as I felt bad for Moon, I wouldn’t be the one to disclose the truth to him. I hoped Ali would tell him one day, before it was too late.
