It was supposed to be Camilla’s birthday celebration, but Wesley was the one busy in the
kitchen the entire time.
Camilla, with an air of smugness, turned to me and said, “Nora, you’re so lucky to have such a good husband like Wesley.”
I ignored her comment.
During dinner, Camilla extended her hand expectantly toward me. “Where’s my birthday
gift?”
I looked at her entitled demeanor and shook my head. “I’ve been so busy lately that I forgot. I’ll make it up to you next time.”
Camilla froze for a moment, her face quickly twisting with anger.
“What do you mean, Nora? You came to celebrate my birthday and didn’t even bother to prepare a gift?”
In previous years, I always went out of my way to get her carefully chosen birthday presents–luxury handbags or designer jewelry, never costing less than five figures.
It seems she had gotten so used to taking from me that she started treating it as her right.
“All the things you’ve taken from me in the past, and the one time I don’t bring something, you’re ready to flip out?” I scoffed coldly, looking directly at her.
Wesley quickly stepped in to smooth things over.
“Don’t be upset. Look, I got you a birthday gift! Come see if you like it,” he said, pulling out a Van Cleef & Arpels box.
Camilla’s eyes immediately lit up. “Is it the bracelet I’ve been wanting?”
I glanced at the familiar box and smirked. If I wasn’t mistaken, that bracelet had been gathering dust in my jewelry cabinet after I accidentally got paint on it while sketching.

No wonder Camilla was always decked out in luxury–it seemed she had been stealing from
me all along.
Just as Camilla was about to open the box, her face suddenly turned pale, and she clutched her stomach, crying out in pain.
“Wesley, my stomach! It hurts so much!”
Wesley panicked, rushing to support her. Camilla was drenched in sweat, her face Contorted with agony.
“My baby, Wesley, is something wrong with the baby? Please help me, it hurts so much!” she cried, looking down at her legs. She froze, her entire body stiffening.
A streak of blood slowly trickled down her thigh.
Seeing this, Wesley didn’t hesitate. He scooped her up and bolted out the door.
I accompanied them to the hospital.
After a series of examinations, the doctor emerged with a grim expression.
“You young people really don’t take your bodies seriously. At this stage of pregnancy, you still dare to engage in sexual activity, and so violently at that? You’re lucky there’s no serious harm this time, but if it happens again, you’ll have no choice but to deliver early,”
the doctor said sternly.
Hearing this, Wesley’s face turned deathly pale. He glanced at me, panic written all over his face, and hurriedly shook his head.
“Doctor, you’ve got it wrong. She’s not my wife–this is my wife,” Wesley stammered, desperately trying to salvage the situation as he gestured toward me..
He even tried to put his arm around my shoulders, but I subtly sidestepped him, avoiding
his touch.
Camilla, enraged, shouted at the doctor for making baseless accusations.
I had no interest in listening to their excuses. Using a convenient excuse, I left the hospital without another word.

As soon as I stepped outside, my phone buzzed with a call from Bowen.
“The results are in for Camilla’s baby.”
