Chapter 5
Wesley quickly stuffed the divorce application he was holding into his bag, a flicker of panic flashing in his eyes as he looked at me.
“Nora, what are you doing here?”
with a month still left in the divorce cooling–off period and no certificate in hand, his guilt was evident.
I held up the document folder in my hand and pointed to the nearby land registry office.
“I need proof of property ownership for the demolition compensation. I came to get a copy of the title certificate.”
Hearing this, Wesley let out a visible sigh of relief. Just as he was about to pat his chest in reassurance, I narrowed my gaze at him and Camilla, my tone turning cold.
“But… both of you showing up at the marriage registry office at the same time–don’t you think you owe me an explanation?”
Wesley, ignoring Camilla’s prominently pregnant belly, hurried down the steps to stand in front of me.
“Camilla was just hoping to find someone to marry, so she thought she’d wait around here. She was too embarrassed to come alone, so she asked me to accompany her,” Wesley said, giving me a sheepish, ingratiating smile.
I almost laughed out loud at the absurdity of his lie. Did he really think I was that gullible?
Seeing my silence, Wesley turned to Camilla and gave her a pointed look.
“Camilla, I spent the whole afternoon helping you look for a suitable groom and didn’t find anyone. Don’t you think you should treat Nora and me to a meal as a thank–you?”
Camilla reluctantly came down the steps, rolling her eyes at me.
“If Nora had just agreed to lend you to me, I wouldn’t have had to wait here like a fool. That meal should be on her.”

I glanced at Camilla, noting her outfit. Despite being unemployed since her pregnancy, she was decked out in luxury designer items from head to toe.
“Sure, I’ll treat. If you dare to show up,” I said with a light laugh.
Both of them froze for a moment.
“What’s that supposed to mean, Nora?” Camilla snapped, stomping her foot in frustration.
Her face turned pale, and she clutched her stomach dramatically,
“Are you planning to push me again?”
Wesley immediately moved to shield Camilla, his expression stern.
“Nora, Camilla is pregnant. Why do you keep targeting her? Where’s your sense of decency?”
Looking at his defensive stance, I sneered mockingly.
“I was just joking. Do you really need to make such a big deal out of it? Don’t you think you’re being a little too attentive to Camilla?”
Wesley’s expression softened slightly at my words, and he wrapped his arm around my
waist.
“Nora, I’m only looking out for her because she’s your best friend. Don’t worry, you’re the only one in my heart.”
“Exactly! Wesley loves you so much–it makes me jealous. Unlike me, abandoned by my
man and left to raise my baby on my own,” Camilla said with a bitter smile, though her eyes
were fixed on Wesley’s hand resting on my waist.
Sensing her gaze, Wesley quickly urged me to go handle my paperwork.
I had no interest in prolonging the farce and left with my documents.
Today, I was at the land registry to file a property adjustment–I planned to sell the apartment Camilla was currently living in.
Recently, my colder attitude toward Wesley had made him suspicious, as if he feared I’d
