Over the next few days, I focused on preparing for the presentation.
Ethan’s parents suddenly called. They had somehow found out about our breakup.
“Sarah, are you and Ethan having a fight? That boy can be impulsive. Please be patient with
im.”
I replied calmly, “Uncle, Aunt, we’ve broken up. We’re both adults, and we made this
decision after careful consideration.”
“We know Ethan. He definitely loves you. You’ve been in a long–distance relationship for so long, and you went to New York to see him because you care about him, right?”
“I used to love him, but not anymore. Uncle, Aunt, please don’t try to persuade me.”
I hung up the phone, and soon after, another unknown number called.
I hesitated, but I answered.
“Sarah, what did you tell my parents? You’re the one who wanted to break up. Why are you dragging Ashley into this?”
Without a second thought, I hung up and blocked the number.
Once the presentation was over, I could go back to California and finally close this chapter of my life.
The day before the presentation at NYU, John sent me a few project proposals from NYU
students.
One of them happened to be from Ethan and Ashley’s team.
I read it carefully.
And I couldn’t help but laugh.
So this was the project he had been so busy with. This was the result of all his hard work
