Chapter 7
After work, I found Ruben waiting outside my company building
He was holding a bouquet of blood red roses, his face lighting up with joy as he approached
- me.
sabrina, I saw the offer in your email and realized you were working here, I came to sink
you up,” he said, handing me the roses,
I calmly took them, then, without hesitation, tossed them into the trash.
“Do you know? The day after I found out I was pregnant, I also discovered your affair. That photo was tucked into the roses you ordered.”
I looked at him coldly, my voice devoid of emotion.
He stared at me, panic flashing in his eyes.
“From that day on, I stopped liking roses,” I continued, “and I stopped liking the man who
sent them to me.”
With that, I turned and walked in the opposite direction, leaving him behind
A dull ache throbbed in my chest.
During that period, I often woke in the middle of the night, staring at Ruben sleeping beside me, unsure whether I was trapped in a nightmare or reality.
After a simple dinner, I opened my laptop and continued working
I also messaged Ruben, arranging to meet at the civil affairs bureau the next morning to
finalize the divorce.
With the substantial evidence I had, I was confident I’d have the upper hand even if the
matter went to court.
Once the divorce was settled, I planned to bring Grandma to live with me.

Chapter 7
The next morning at 10 am, Redben and 1 arrived at the bureau as scheduled
He looked pale and haggard, a far cry from the sharp, decisive man he used to be
“Sabrina, is there really no way we can go back to how we were?” he asked, lowering his head as he reached out, hesitating, then withdrawing his hand
I nodded,
No, it’s impossible.”
A bitter smile flickered on his lips.
Afterward, I stared blankly at the divorce certificate in my hand.
A single piece of paper had brought an end to our long years together.
Ruben stood silently, his head bowed.
Suddenly, a woman burst out from the corner, rushing toward me and slapping me hard
across the face.
The impact left my cheek numb, followed by a stinging pain as it swelled.
Sofia stood before me, her face twisted into a venomous smile.
“Finally, you’re divorced, you wretched woman!”
Clutching my throbbing cheek, I couldn’t react immediately.
Ruben quickly came to my side, steadying me before grabbing Sofia and slapping her back with a loud crack.
The scene descended into chaos.
Blood trickled from Sofia’s lips as she hurled insults at us without restraint.
“A cheating man and his gullible wife–what a match! Ruben, you didn’t slap me when we were in bed! Are you even a man? Flirting with me while pretending to be some devoted husband to her–disgusting!”
Chapter 7
Ruben’s fists clenched, veins bulging as his face darkened
His cold, chilling voice broke through her tirade.
“Shut up.”
The icy menace in his tone made Sofia freeze. She said no more, spinning on her heel and
leaving in her car.
But not without a parting threat: “Ruben, just you wait. I’ll make you pay for this!
“Sabrina, I… Ruben started, trying to help me, but I shoved his hand away.
“I find you disgusting too,” I spat.
From beginning to end, I had done nothing wrong.
I endured betrayal and provocation, yet still tried to maintain dignity.
And still, I ended up the one caught in this storm.
“You’re no different from your father,” I said through clenched teeth, holding my swollen
cheek.
Ruben’s body seemed to collapse in on itself. His steps faltered, and he looked unsteady on-
his feet.
“Sabrina, please don’t…” he whispered, tears streaming down his face.
He was the child of an affair, bearing the weight of scorn and ridicule throughout his life.
Classmates who knew his background had mocked and ostracized him, never sparing him a
kind look.
That was why he had loved me so deeply–I was the only one who had treated him with
respect.
Someone who had never been cared for would fall hard for even the smallest act of
kindness.
